Back in Gero doing OT things! Things I like about Gero: warmish and sunny, today was a really valuable day for me getting to see some people who have never met an OT, or haven’t seen one in years. Also got to see some old friends 🥰Things I don’t like about Gero: the wind and cry-worthy turbulence I had on the flight in!

How good is seeing clients engaging in activities that give them identity, build self-esteem, and above all else make them happy?!

Absolutely stoked to see one of my clients, Matty, completely immersed and participating in a community lifesaving event in Sorento the other week. Matty has been working on developing his self-esteem, so that he can increase his social and community engagement and connection. Building the confidence to communicate is no small feat, and participating in meaningful community events is a great way to reinforce positive social engagements and build a persons ability. I can’t wait to see Matty continue to grow, and for the rest of the world to see the incredibly kind and humorous young man that I get to chat to in sessions!

Kicking goals! Dan came down to support the Claremont Tigers and his OT this weekend for the WAFLW grand final. Dan has always been a proud Claremont supporter, but has also recently formed a new tie to the club by beginning a volunteering position at the Tiger Bar. Dan’s dream job is to be a full-time bartender one day, and he is stoked to be able to gain experience working at the bar on Friday nights. Dan plays footy himself, so to be working in a football related job is a dream. This has already started helping him with his self-esteem and confidence goals. Thanks for being a big supporter Dan, and we all look forward to seeing you around the club!

What is Dating 101?
The Dating 101 group introduces the idea of romantic relationships, but the primary focus is development of interpersonal skills, as a foundation for positive social relationships. This also means developing a persons self-esteem, a vital quality for other skills such as assertiveness, conversation skills and healthy relationships. Dating 101 also opens up the conversation of diversity within sexual orientation, and understanding of what consent means.

What is Relationships Foundations?
The Relationship Foundations group delves a little deeper into interpersonal skills. It aims to develop a persons empathy skills, so that the participant can understand others perspectives. The group continues to further develop self-esteem and self-awareness, with additional areas of focus including conflict management and healthy sexual expression.
