๐ A New Chapter for Social.Justice.Church ๐
As of the end of May 2025 - and after much prayer, reflection, and conversation - weโve concluded our Friday Night Fellowship services. Thank you to everyone who journeyed with us. Your presence, prayers, and commitment to justice have meant so much.
Iโm sure youโll all agree that our final gathering under this initiative marked a meaningful close to this season of shared worship and community.
Looking ahead, weโre returning to our original name: Social.Justice.Church - an initiative of the Uniting Church in the City, and part of the wider Uniting Church in Australia.
Rather than regular worship services, weโll now focus on justice-focused events held in partnership with other groups.
Weโll share details about upcoming events here on Facebook and via Mailchimp - so stay tuned, and make sure you're subscribed!
With gratitude and anticipation,
The Social.Justice.Church Team

Together, we stand in solidarityโhonouring the past, acknowledging lived experiences, and committing ourselves to a future built on justice and reconciliation.

Our Vision for a Just Australia: Foundation 5 โ An Inclusive and Equal Society
This foundation is grounded in the view of humanity promoted by the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. But this view does not translate into reality, as we live in a society where:
โข social and economic disadvantage is often determined early.
โข there are high levels of family violence,
โข and many people are disenfranchised and discriminated against due to faith, cultural background, ability, age, and gender identity.
This is not aligned with the idea that we all are bearers of Godโs image (Gen 1: 26 โ 27) or that we should live in a community where hierarchy and favoritism is absent (Galatians 3: 28, James 2: 1 โ 9). It is up to us to challenge the status quo that favors the few at the expense of the many. Our work is the work of reconciliation and renewal, which is the mission of the body of Christ in our world.

Please accept my apologies everyone, this was meant to go up last night.
On the 7th of March the Uniting Church Calendar of Other Commemorations honours third century Christian martyrs Perpetua and Felicity.
Hailing from North Africa, the story of Perpetua and Felicity was recorded in one of the earliest Christian texts, the Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity. Written from the perspective of Perpetua, this manuscript is a diarised account of her imprisonment and martyrdom along with her slave Felicity, who was said to be pregnant at the time.
The story recounts that their deaths occurred during public games in a Roman amphitheatre alongside three other Christian companions, Revocatus, Secundulus and Saturninus.
In some circles, Perpetua and Felicity are considered to be patrons of same-sex couples. More information about this can be found in a fascinating article online at Q Spirit: https://qspirit.net/perpetua-felicity-same-sex-couples/
You can also find an English version of Perpetuaโs diary at the Internet History Sourcebook Project website from Fordham University: https://sourcebooks.web.fordham.edu/source/perpetua.asp
