One little playdough letter... a whole lot of learning. 🩡

When children build letters with their hands, they're doing more than learning what a letter looks like. They're exploring its shape, orientation and formation, helping their brains develop a deeper understanding of how letters work.

Activities like this engage multiple senses at once, which can make letter recognition and recall much more meaningful than simply seeing a letter on a page.

Simple. Hands on. Effective.

πŸ“š Not every child learns best in a classroom of 30.

Some children need a little more time.
Some need concepts explained differently.
Some just need someone to believe they can do it.

Our Tuesday Small Group Tutoring sessions are designed to build confidence, strengthen skills, and help children experience success in learning.

πŸ’› The greatest compliment?
When families come back.

Today I had the pleasure of catching up with a mum I first met years ago when Authentic Learning Australia was just getting started out in Dawesville.

Back then, I was supporting her youngest daughter. Today, she walked back through my door seeking support for her eldest.

And honestly... moments like this mean the world.

Because it tells me that what we do matters.

It tells me that families remember how they felt when they were supported, understood and genuinely cared for.

It tells me that when challenges arise, they know they have a safe place to turn.

Watching children grow, seeing families return years later, and being trusted to walk alongside them through different stages of life is something I never take for granted.

To every family who has trusted me with their child, thank you. ❀️

Honestly, if you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, unsure where to start, or simply want to chat about your child and what support might help...

πŸ“ž Give me a call.

Whether it's for a session, advice, guidance, or just a conversation, I'm always happy to help point families in the right direction.

Sometimes all it takes is a chat.

Look at that smile!
It says it all! 😊

Over the past few months, this little legend has been working incredibly hard on his letter formation, sizing, spacing, line placement, phonics, and blending sounds together to read and spell words independently.

Learning to read and write doesn't happen overnight. It takes patience, practice, determination, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

This was one of those moments where all that hard work shone through.

Well done, little champ. Keep believing in yourself; you're capable of amazing things. 🌟

Maybe your child isn't giving you a hard time.
Maybe they're having a hard time.

I know how exhausting it can be.
The constant reminders.
The big emotions.
The meltdowns over things that seem so small.
The battles to leave the house.
The worries.
The tears.
The moments where you find yourself wondering, "What am I doing wrong?"

But what if your child isn't trying to make life difficult?
What if they're trying to tell you something they don't yet have the words for?

Children communicate through behaviour long before they can explain what's happening inside.
Fear can look like anger.
Anxiety can look like defiance.
Overwhelm can look like avoidance.

A child who feels out of control on the inside often looks out of control on the outside.

And while that doesn't make the behaviour okay, it can help us understand it differently.

So if you need the reminder today:
You are not failing.
Your child is not broken.
And sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is look beyond the behaviour and ask,
"What is my child needing right now?"

🍫 WEEK 7 β€’ Everyday Cooking Skills 🍫
Tuesday 9th June

This week we’re making Chocolate Peanut Butter Oat Bars πŸ˜‹

These sessions continue to be such a lovely mix of practical learning, confidence-building, creativity, and social connection. It has been beautiful watching children become more comfortable, capable, and independent in the kitchen each week 🩷

This week children will have opportunities to:
✨ practise measuring and portioning ingredients
✨ develop hand-eye coordination
✨ learn about combining ingredients and consistency
✨ build patience and turn-taking skills
✨ make choices and follow simple recipes
✨ strengthen confidence through hands-on learning

There’s something really special about watching children feel proud of something they’ve made themselves β€” especially when it involves chocolate πŸ˜‹πŸ‘Œ

This might be uncomfortable to hear, but maybe that's exactly why it needs to be said.

We've created systems that reward children for sitting still, staying quiet, following directions, and learning in one very specific way.

Then we act surprised when children who are curious, energetic, creative, sensitive, neurodivergent, traumatised, anxious, hands-on, or simply different begin to struggle.

The question shouldn't be, "What's wrong with the child?"

The question should be, "Why does this environment only work for some children and not others?"

Children were never designed to be identical. Learning was never meant to look the same for everyone.

A child's worth should never be measured by how easy they are to manage.

Just a thought. πŸ’

One of the biggest predictors of reading success isn't intelligence.

It's confidence.

Children who are willing to have a go, make mistakes, self-correct and keep trying will almost always make more progress than children who are too worried about getting it wrong.

Confidence doesn't magically appear one day. It's built over time through encouragement, positive experiences, achievable challenges, and having trusted adults who focus on progress rather than perfection.

That's why you'll often see us sitting alongside children, celebrating effort, supporting them through mistakes, and creating opportunities where they can experience success.

Our job isn't to create perfect readers.

It's to create confident learners.

The reading comes after that. ❀️

πŸ₯” WEEK 6 β€’ Everyday Cooking Skills πŸ₯”
Tuesday 2nd June

This week we’re making Mini Potato Pancakes πŸ˜‹

These sessions are about so much more than just cooking. Every recipe creates opportunities for children to build confidence, independence, communication skills, and practical life skills in a calm and supportive environment.

This week children will have opportunities to:
✨ practise grating and mixing ingredients
✨ strengthen fine motor skills
✨ follow multi-step instructions
✨ explore new foods and food textures
✨ develop confidence in food preparation
✨ engage in teamwork and conversation

I’ve also loved seeing children become more willing to try new foods as their confidence grows each week. Sometimes being involved in the preparation process makes all the difference πŸ‘ŒπŸ©·
