We are delighted to welcome Simone to the Perth Hand Clinic family this week. Simone brings over 10 years of experience as a Hand Therapist across both public and private hospitals settings throughout Perth and is an Accredited Hand Therapist. Prior to specialising in hand therapy, she worked for 12 years as a Medical Imaging Technologist, giving her a strong and well-rounded clinical foundation. At Perth Hand Clinic, providing personalised and thoughtful care is at the heart of what we do. Simone shares this same philosophy and looks forward to the privilege of supporting our patients on their journey to recovery. Online bookings and further information about Simone are now available via our website. Welcome Sim!

There's something special about treating people in their home environment. Rheumatoid arthritis affects everyone very differently. This customised resting splint was made during a home visit, allowing treatment to be tailored within the person's home environment. These were made to improve comfort, support painful joints, and protect hand alignment.

This image shows our patient who is demonstrating increased range of movement beyond the typical range. Hypermobility exists on a spectrum. Some individuals may experience pain, fatigue, or difficulty with normal function, while others remain asymptomatic. In this case, the patient reports a diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome by their Rheumatologist. In hand therapy, management may include supporting joint stability, improving strength and control, and splinting to assist with support and pain management.

This is what a mallet finger looks like. They are very common but it is important that they are treated quickly and correctly. Patients often call and tell us that the tip of the finger "droops", or that they cannot straighten it properly. Fortunately, treatment for these injuries is quite simple - you require an initial consult of half an hour that can be booked online at a cost of $98 only, and you are provided with a $30 splint to wear for between 6 and 8 weeks.

Kris recently returned from Dubai, spending 2 days learning from the amazing Alison Taylor in her "Treating Without Pain" course. So good to have some time performing hands on practice of what she teaches. We use her techniques daily with our patients and the benefits we see are incredible!

Sarah created this custom mitten for our very sweet 4 year old patient over the weekend. As a chronic finger sucker she was experiencing some soft tissue issues and needed something to help her stop the habit. Sewing skills to the rescue!
