So many of the chronic diseases around these days are caused by chronic stress. Although small doses of stress can be very beneficial, if stress lingers and is not kept at bay, its negative effect can be seen in nearly every part of the body. With anxiety and depression on the rise, keeping your nervous systems in balance can make a big difference to what you think about others and how you think others think about you…
We all seem to be in such a rush these days and multi tasking becoming much more common. Whether you eat while watching TV or checking your phone, having lunch at your desk to get on top of some work or quickly eating breakfast before you race out the door. There are a multitude of digestives issues around today, and not that this is going to solve them all, but it will definitely set your body up much better to do what it needs to do. Simple yet effective and doesn’t take much time out of your day. Mindful eating habits can go along way to improving overall health.

In these crazy chaotic lives we lead, our body is trying to maintain homeostasis. Constantly trying to coordinate all the different systems of the body. The more consistent cues we can give it, such as waking up about the same time, (lets say within half and hour everyday, no matter what time zone your in) and eating your first meal at the same time each day, the easier it becomes to find this internal balance and systems such as digestion and immunity can run more smoothly. Think of it as taking the guess work out by helping to synchronise your body.
Have you ever woken up after a sleep in and felt even more groggy and tied. This is because you body is spending so much of its energy trying to figure out where it’s at and what it should be doing. You are better off waking up at the same time and going back to bed for a nap later in the day (before 3pm so it doesn’t affect the next nights sleep) where ever possible. Ideally we should be going to bed around the same time too and shifting our sleep/wake cycles around the seasons/changes in light but this is not always possible with work and other commitments. Give it a try for a while and see how you feel. Might be the best thing you have done for yourself in a while!

Anyone who know me knows how much I rate this podcast. There are many good episodes but this one just recently got me to stop and think about my own habits. I feel like it will appeal to many different kinds of people and just allows us to reflect in a compassionate way about certain habits we may have and to remember that it’s not about the finish line. We learn the most from the journey along the way so savour it and perhaps get us to have a bit of a reality check on our expectations. Worth a listen 💕

What are you doing to achieve your goals?
It’s important to do something for yourself everyday. Whether it be breath work, meditation, mindfulness. Whatever brings you peace and helps your body manage the stresses of life. Leave your exercise mat somewhere where you can see it to remind you. If you have time to stretch or do some yoga. Great! But even if it’s just 5mins laying in your mat to get back in touch with your body and ground yourself it is well worth it. If you have 5 minutes to scroll social media. You have 5 minutes to dedicate to yourself! Your body will get so much out of it, especially if you do it on a regular basis. A little bit can go a long way!!! As they say; those who say they don’t have time to meditate should be meditating twice a day…💭
