Today I dropped by JUGNU 'cafe & restaurant' in Canning Vale and caught up with some Tangney residents.
We sat down over masala tea and talked about what matters most to them, from the cost of living to what’s happening locally.
Great tea, great conversations.

It’s fantastic to have so many schools involved in the Year of the Horse CNY Poster Competition, organised by the WA Bilingual Education Hub.
Strong participation from schools here in Tangney, including Bannister Creek Primary School, Bateman Primary School, Oberthur Primary School, Rossmoyne Primary School, Melville Senior High School, Lynwood Senior High School and Rehoboth Christian College.
Students have brought real creativity into their work, while exploring culture and learning from different traditions.
Well done to all the students and schools involved.
⛽Update: We’ve just secured an extra 100 million litres of diesel for Australia.
War in the Middle East has pushed up prices at home. And Australians are feeling it, from the servo to the supermarket.
We're doing everything we can to keep costs down.

This week, many of our communities are celebrating the New Year in different ways, and it’s a great reminder of the diversity we have here in Tangney.
From Tamil, Sinhalese, Thai, Lao, Cambodian, Burmese, Sikh, Bengali and Nepalese traditions, each celebration brings its own customs, food and time with family.
It’s something I see often across our community — people sharing culture, staying connected to their roots and bringing others along with them.
Wishing everyone celebrating a happy and meaningful New Year.
Global events are putting pressure on fuel prices, and I know people are feeling it here in Tangney.
That’s why the Albanese Labor Government is working closely with international partners to keep fuel supplies stable and make sure Australia remains well supplied during this period of uncertainty.
At the same time, we’re focused on practical steps to ease pressure on households and businesses, keeping supply moving and doing what we can to bring costs down.

Great to visit Samy Medical Practice Canning Vale and Trinity Mental Health Services with Minister Madeleine King MP.
Both are bulk billing services providing accessible care close to home, with professional and supportive teams who look after people in our Tangney community.
Healthcare should be easy to access and part of everyday life. That’s why we’re continuing to strengthen Medicare and take health seriously, so people can get the support they need, when they need it.

Great to join my state colleague Terry Healy in recognising the outstanding students.
It was a real privilege to congratulate these high achievers, from those reaching top ATAR results to others completing strong VET pathways. Different paths, but the same commitment and hard work.
Behind every result is a lot of effort, along with the support of families and teachers who help make it possible.
Wishing all of them the very best as they take the next step.

In Tangney, we see every day how important community spaces are for bringing people together.
There is now funding available to support projects that improve or expand facilities used by multicultural groups, whether it’s upgrading existing venues or creating new shared spaces.
These places play a big role in helping people stay connected, share culture and support one another.
The first round closes on Monday, 18 May. If your organisation has been planning something, this could be a good opportunity to take it further.

More than 28 per cent of people in Tangney speak a language other than English at home. Growing up speaking Mandarin, Teochew, Hokkien and Malay, I’ve seen firsthand how language helps us connect with people and understand each other better.
I want to recognise the work of our community language schools and schools like Oberthur Primary School, which have built strong bilingual programs with the support of families, teachers and the wider community.
