Whats on my mind?...ok.
For as long as I can remember it was always a dream of mine to start my own machine shop. I love engineering and im damn good at it. Unfortunately for me, it took my younger brother deciding to end his own life for me to realise what I needed to do with mine. June 2020, ProWest Engineering was born..fast forward 5 years later.. we fast become one of Perths best machine shops (🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 reviews dont lie).
3 Multi-axis lathes, 2 vertical milling centres, 3T forklift, bandsaw, matrix tooling systems, Mastercam cad cam technology, company vehicles, ProWest Motorsports 410 Sprintcar racing team, spread across 2 workshops in the heart of Bibra Lake. ProWest Engineering has become a Juggernaut business and Im proud of what has been accomplished in such a short period of time but all this comes at a great cost, not only financially but physically and mentally.
On December 5th of last year my wife was involved in a horrific accident which left her paralysed from waist down. She has been in hospital since and is is currently at Fiona Stanley State Rehabilitation centre fighting to regain functions. 5 and a half years of grinding, building an empire only to have the person i love most now in hospital in the fight of her life all in the blink of an eye. I have 700hrs annual leave, nearly 500hrs sick leave and yet, can not take a day off. I have worked through extreme sickness, im currently working with a broken ankle, missed my childrens pivotal moments, events, carnivals, first day of school, high school all to try give my family the best possible life. For the life of me i can not find Cnc machinists, apprentices even office staff. I've even put out $10000 sign up bonuses! with nothing, not a bite. I've tried sponsorship only to be bent over and fkd in the ass. Right now, I'm questioning why?, is it me? Am I doing something wrong? I've built an amazing business with the latest in tooling and technology, Clean working environment, great remuneration. Awesome variety of work and yet still can not find talent or someone who can help or enable me to take the time off i need to spend with my family especially now more than ever with my wife in hospital. I recently interviewed a guy who went on to tell me he had just come back from 2 months off carer's leave because his partner had a cesarean...(i laughed to myself and thought; my wife is in hospital with a broken spine and I can't even take a day off). What is the point of creating something amazing if i cannot find the people who want to be a part of it and to grow with. At the cost of my own sanity, Im asking myself that question everyday..The thing is, i aint no quitter, either is my wife after doctors telling her she will never walk again, yet has somehow miraculously regained feeling in her legs and now movement in her left. I could have closed these doors 100 times over and walked away from it all. She is the only reason im still here, fighting. I dont know why I am sharing this with you all, maybe im not ok, maybe it's my way of de-loading, therapy or maybe just now, people will truly understand what goes on behind all the glitz and glam these bu****it platforms seem to portray. Behind this business is an everyday family fighting their own battles just the same as you all. But there are also opportunities for people to learn, grow and he a part of something amazing.
