It’s a bit of an end of year latergram, but we couldn’t let 2026 arrive before we’d shared these images from “Room Service” , a site responsive multi-artist work at the old P&O Hotel in Walyalup/Fremantle in November.

This is the uncontested longest gig we’ve ever performed - 4 hours of uninterrupted singing each night of the weekend - but we really settled into a flow of singing and moving that became a meditation. We hope audiences who came along found it an opportunity to contemplate the space and the contemporary and historic movement of people through it.

Warmth and gratitude to the curatorial and production team - , and - for all the support, feedback and encouragement.

Last rehearsal of the year! What a delight to share it with who ran some sound and rhythm exercises with us before jamming some of our rep. It was fun to reimagine our usually acapella tunes with accompaniment!

Next it’s a little summer break for Hengequeens, and then we’re back in the new year prepping for an International Women’s Day gig in March. Stay tuned for more news, and happy summertime from all of us at Hengequeens 💖⚡️

📣 GIG ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

We’re super pumped for November! Next month we’re participating in “Room Service” as part of

TL;DR - tickets on sale TODAY Friday 31st October! Link in bio!

“Room Service” brings together artists in a range of disciplines to create works within, and in response to, the historic P&O Hotel on High Street in Walyalup/Fremantle.

Operating as a boarding house in the late 1800s, as the P&O since 1901, and then as accommodation for Notre Dame University students before lying fallow for the last few years, the hotel has a long history as a site of rest for people in transience.

Throughout November, each of the hotel’s rooms will be occupied by artists-in-residence, and at the end of the month the public is invited to walk through and experience the works created during the residency period. Hengequeens are in the Common Room, which features the gorgeous stained glass in the photo up top.

We love creating immersive work, and we’re excited to participate alongside this stellar lineup of artists.

More info on the Biennale website, and tickets are available now. Links to both in bio!

It’s easy at gigs to forget that a choir isn’t a monolith. We’re 25ish individuals, each with our own lives and joys and struggles. It’s the coming together that makes the magic.

Something I love about The Longest Night is the way that the audience’s proximity to individual choir members means you might hear one voice as well as the many. You get the sum as well as the parts.

Anyway here’s some more of Bridget’s photos of us. These ones have little insights into some of the moments different members had at the dress rehearsal, where we shot these. These people 💖⚡️
