Hengequeens is a feminist choir. Down with the patriarchy!

Hi hello we still exist! We’re in a lovely quiet time between gigs, working on our intonation and body percussion.

We’re having a little sing in June for our friends at the CWA, and in September we’re having our first ever choir camp, so there’s some fun stuff coming up. We might also be planning something bigger and specialer on the other side of those things, but we can’t talk about it yet!

More importantly, sometimes we turn up to rehearsal and realise that we’ve inadvertently twinned our outfit with someone, or that several of us have agreed using only ESP to dress in a particular colour palette. Here are some recent examples for posterity. Happy weekend to those who celebrate!

3. Brights!

5. Wide leg pants club
6. Matchy matchy in our tees!
7. Sisters: not matching, not twins, but somehow kind of twinning all the time.

A series of photos of people wearing similarly coloured or cut clothing. Every photo is somewhat silly.

It’s a bit of an end of year latergram, but we couldn’t let 2026 arrive before we’d shared these images from “Room Service” , a site responsive multi-artist work at the old P&O Hotel in Walyalup/Fremantle in November.

This is the uncontested longest gig we’ve ever performed - 4 hours of uninterrupted singing each night of the weekend - but we really settled into a flow of singing and moving that became a meditation. We hope audiences who came along found it an opportunity to contemplate the space and the contemporary and historic movement of people through it.

Warmth and gratitude to the curatorial and production team - , and - for all the support, feedback and encouragement.

Last rehearsal of the year! What a delight to share it with who ran some sound and rhythm exercises with us before jamming some of our rep. It was fun to reimagine our usually acapella tunes with accompaniment!

Next it’s a little summer break for Hengequeens, and then we’re back in the new year prepping for an International Women’s Day gig in March. Stay tuned for more news, and happy summertime from all of us at Hengequeens 💖⚡️
