EyeSense Vision Optometrists
Behavioural optometrists focused on the prevention and treatment of vision problems.
Devastating.
The brilliant Sophie Dwyer misses a crucial shot.
One she’s taken many times before.
It goes to show…
High-pressure situations disrupt even elite visual systems.
Here’s what possibly happened to Sophie during that shot:
Normally, she’s focused.
Her eyes fixed on one specific point just before she takes the shot.
Her visual attention is stable.
Her brain effortlessly coordinates movement, timing, and force based on the visual input.
But stress could’ve changed her visual processing.
Perhaps her focus shifted…
From the ring to the defender, to other players on court.
Her attention shifted.
Her vision became less stable.
And her accuracy suffered.
Not because she couldn’t make the shot.
But because pressure interfered with the connection between vision and action.
At EyeSense, we’ve seen something similar in patients.
On a normal day, their vision is great.
But when the stakes are high…
Exams
Work deadlines
Important matches
Their performance takes a hit.
Mistakes creep in.
Not because they’re incapable.
But because pressure changes how the brain processes visual information.
Which is why it’s so important to understand how the brain and eyes function as a team.
Because success under pressure is about more than just skill.
It’s about how effective you process visual information when it matters most.

Slow reading. Poor recall. Eye strain.
Some think it’s normal.
But it could be a sign that your vision isn’t functioning as it should.
Yes, you can see the words clearly.
But reading involves way more than just seeing the words.
Your eyes must flow across the page with ease.
If your eyes jump, you may:
🔹 Skip words or entire lines
🔹 Keep losing your place
🔹 Struggle to follow the story
🔹 Forget what you’ve just read
🔹 Reread sentences to understand them
The skill is called eye tracking
✨✨✨
And both your eyes should show teamwork.
They should focus on the same spot at the same time.
It’s also known as eye teaming.
When your eyes are misaligned, your brain gets two different images.
Now your brain gets confused, so your brain may:
🔹 Ignore your one eye
🔹 Or force your eye muscles to work harder to maintain focus
So, you experience eye strain, headaches, and fatigue.
Especially at the end of the day.
✨✨✨
Then there’s visual processing.
Your brain must interpret every letter.
Every word.
Every sentence.
There’s a lot to do in split seconds:
🔹 Recognise letters and words with accuracy
🔹 Understand the meaning
🔹 Recall information in the right sequence
🔹 Create mental images of what you’re reading
Are you an effective reader?
Or do you find reading frustrating and exhausting?
Book an eye assessment with our team.
And we may help you uncover what’s really holding you back.

It's been 365 days...
Nobody could've prepared me for what it's like to own my own practice.
Late nights
Endless amounts of admin
Training new staff
Saying goodbye to old staff
Weekends spent at the practice
Checking my account balance far too often
So many meetings
And 1,001 other little details
But despite some setbacks, I'm so proud of where EyeSense Vision is today.
When I look back, I'm filled with gratitude for:
God's blessing and provision
An incredible and supportive team
Opportunities to expand my knowledge and experience
Onboarding amazing new staff
Expanding the services we offer
Loyal patients
New patients
Patients who've expressed sincere gratitude for our services
Old relationships that grew stronger
New relationships
And that my kids love spending time at the practice
This year was tougher than I anticipated.
But it was also more beautiful than I ever could've imagined.
Thank you for being part of the story.

You have bloodshot eyes most days.
But before you blame your allergies…
Or another late night…
Or the drops you’ve been using…
You should consider this:
Are your eyes working harder than they should?
To have good vision, your brain and eyes must work together as a team.
But if your eyes are misaligned, even slightly, things change.
Your brain will either ignore your weaker eye…
Or it will work your eye muscles overtime to bring things into focus.
And most people don’t even realise this is happening.
It’s called binocular vision dysfunction or BVD.
So when you read, do computer work, or drive…
Your eye muscles work overtime and your eyes become tired.
You blink less because you concentrate so hard to keep things in focus.
Your eyes start drying out because you don’t blink enough.
No wonder your eyes become red, irritated, and strained.
But there’s good news…
If BVD is the cause, treatment through prism lenses and vision therapy could help.
Have your binocular vision assessed by booking your in-depth eye test.

This team, though.
Some of them joined recently...
Others have been there since the start...
Can't believe it's almost been a year.
And at our quarterly team building, we had some fun at Flight Club.
Good people. Good food. Good fun.
Appreciate every single one of you!

8 hours of sleep and still exhausted by noon?
This could be why…
Binocular vision disorder or BVD.
And it’s more common than you’d think.
But what does it mean?
Let’s explain it to you this way:
You have two phones.
Both are fully charged in the morning.
Phone 1 gets through a full day and still has battery power left when you get home.
Phone 2’s battery drains pretty quick.
But it’s constantly running apps in the background.
By noon it’s nearly dead.
And in desperate need of a recharge.
Phone 1 is someone with great vision.
Even though he works hard, he still has enough energy when he gets home to read a book without falling asleep.
Phone 2 is someone who has BVD.
His brain is constantly working behind the scenes to keep his vision clear and comfortable.
By midday, he’s cooked.
Not because he’s lazy.
Or unfit.
Or because he didn’t sleep enough.
But because his brain is burning energy to keep his vision clear.
Are you constantly:
🔹 Struggling to focus?
🔹 Battling headaches?
🔹 Experiencing sore and tired eyes?
🔹 Rereading lines before they make sense?
🔹 Feeling tired but you don’t understand why?
🔹 Mentally drained even after a good night’s sleep?
It might be because you’re struggling with BVD.
Which symptom do you experience most often? Let us know in the comments below.
And follow EyeSense Vision to learn more about your vision.
