🚦 Every number is a life. Every crash is a tragedy. 🚦

In 2024, Australia recorded the highest number of road deaths in five years. According to the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE), 1,300 people lost their lives on our roads, and 39,505 were seriously injured. These aren’t just statistics—they’re families, friends, and communities changed forever.

That’s why the Australian Government launched the ‘Safer Driving Starts with You’ campaign in December 2024. It’s a powerful reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Every time we drive, we make choices. Are we staying within the speed limit? Avoiding distractions? Driving to conditions? Small decisions can make the difference between arriving safely or not at all.

We need to keep this conversation going. Road safety resources are available in Arabic, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, and Vietnamese to ensure the message reaches every community. Because safer roads start with informed drivers.

PSA: Safer Driving Starts with You! 🚗

Did you know Australia is currently experiencing its highest number of road fatalities in years? Road safety is critical for all of us, and unsafe behaviours like speeding, tailgating, and distractions can have devastating consequences.

That’s why I’m proud to support the Australian Government’s
👉🏼‘Safer Driving Starts with You’ 👈🏼
national Road Safety Campaign. This important initiative reminds us all to practise safe driving behaviours and reflect on our attitudes behind the wheel.

Don’t let a car change who you are.
Let’s keep our roads safe by staying patient, focused, and responsible behind the wheel.

For my community, I encourage you to explore translated resources in Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese.

Congratulations to AWESOME Arts on such an incredibly successful STEAMED UP program - using artistic skills and creativity with year 3 students at Newman Primary School to support individual adaptive learning and critical thinking skills!

Well done to all involved!

Posted •
This year, AWESOME worked with the children of Newman Primary School to deliver STEAMED Up; a process-driven, artist-in-residency program that uses arts practice and creativity to more fully engage children with core curriculum and STEAMED (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Enterprise/Entrepreneurship, and Design) subjects.

AWESOME collaborated with school leadership to co-design a strategic learning plan with educational and skill-based objectives. Throughout the project, we worked with 44 amazing students aged 8-10 years.

We were thrilled to engage .com.au on an evaluation of the community impact of the program. The following are some of the results of the evaluation.

Proudly supported by BHP

STEAMED UP was incredibly successful, combining various disciplines to encourage, creative, thinking, problem-solving, and innovation among students at Newman Primary School.

Congratulations to all involved!

What a week!!

Another highlight being picked by the wonderful team ( 🙌🏼 - thank you!) to lounge on stage with Luke Anear - CEO and Founder of tech unicorn for the plenary fireside chat. And incredible business worth $2.5billion, used by over 70k teams across 85 countries revolutionising the safety in the workplace.

Big thanks to Luke for a great week, allowing me to pick apart your entrepreneurial brain, delve into some of your crazy side hustles (did we just become best friends?!) and share some invaluable insights about start ups-

🦄 The driving factors- work hard, take risks, know when to say no

🦄 Failures and learnings - timing is everything (15 years too early on the trolley wheel invention!)

🦄 Funding - build something brilliant that people will use, build your database of customers to get the attention of funders

🦄 Commonalities between successful funders - noticed that many have attended multiple schools, have migrant parents, drive and passion, willing to take huge risks (and no, I don’t need to move my office to my garage!)

I gave KUDOS for Luke spotlighting Melanie Perkins of Canva, a woman of colour founder, for more than a few seconds on this stage

And lastly, the lightening round!
Here are his insights:
⚡️AI for tech: positive or negative?
= Positive
⚡️Wearable tech: trendy or overrated
= Overrated
⚡️Esports legitimate: agree or disagree
= Legitimate for some!! 😂
⚡️Cryptocurrency : invest or avoid?
= Invest
⚡️Autonomous vehicles: promising or premature?
= Promising (especially taxis! And for safety!)
⚡️eScooter safety standards: stringent or lax?
= Stringent

My heart is full. 💜

This week I was so proud to see two incredible women - the tenacious Laidy Meneses Gonzalez and entrepreneur powerhouse Hawraa Abboud whom I’ve been mentoring for the past 4 months graduate from The Diverse Women’s Leadership Program.

The Diverse Women’s Leadership Program is a federal government funded initiative with the The Muslim Women's Support Centre of WA (Inc) and Alyceum (Alicia Curtis) and is designed to enhance the confidence, leadership capability and networks of an inclusive group of women in a caring and supportive environment.

To witness the remarkable growth, unwavering confidence, and resilience displayed by these women, despite the challenges they've faced, is profoundly inspiring.
Although I was initially asked to mentor them, the experience has been nothing short of reciprocal; I have learnt from their experiences and invaluable life lessons, demonstrating the incredible heights one can achieve through perseverance and determination.

Biggest Congratulations Laidy and Hawraa and the graduating class of Rising Stars and Wise Women.
I look forward to a long friendship with you both and so excited for your next chapter! 💜

Thank you to Alicia Curtis for the wonderful opportunity!
