Food is more than what’s on the plate; it’s culture, connection and story. 💜
Our Foodbank Nutrition and Education team is proud to be working in close collaboration
with the Community and Population Health team at East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS), alongside the local Aboriginal community, to produce a healthy recipe booklet grounded in culture, community and connection.
Boodja to Bowl is a community‑led recipe booklet that celebrates culture, good food and the deep connections between Country, family and shared meals. Shaped by lived experience and knowledge passed down through generations, the booklet brings together recipes and stories that honour where food comes from and the role it plays in strengthening community.
This booklet is expected to be finalised early in the new financial year, bringing together months of collaboration, creativity and community leadership into a resource that truly reflects country, culture and community. Watch this space! 👀

What happens when students get hands‑on with food, try new recipes and build real kitchen confidence? 🤔🤔
This term, we saw it firsthand through nom! Schools. 🤩🤩
In Term 1, Foodbank WA delivered 20 nom! Schools sessions to more than 470 students across Perth Metro and Geraldton. We visited seven schools, from primary classrooms to high schools and every session was packed with curiosity, learning and plenty of tasting.
Our facilitators noticed something special. When we returned for a second visit, many students had already cooked recipes from our nom! cookbooks at home. Their skills and confidence had grown. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Teachers told us the impact lasted well beyond the session. “The students had a great time and are still talking about it. It was one of the most engaging incursion experiences we have had.”
A big thank you to Mineral Resources and PLS for supporting nom! Schools and helping us reach students across Western Australia. 💜
So tell us, what’s the first recipe you’d like to see young people learn to cook? 🤗

Foodbank WA is proud to join The Great Unwaste campaign, a national movement led by End Food Waste Australia, helping all of us reduce food waste through simple actions at home.
As a founding member of End Food Waste Australia, this partnership is a natural extension of the work we already do through Nom!, our nutrition education programs. When less food is wasted, more nutritious food can reach the Western Australians who rely on us.
Since the campaign launched, we have delivered 14 Unwasting workshops, sharing practical tips on planning meals, storing food and using leftovers with confidence.
What is one small change you could make this week to unwaste food at home? 🤔

We love seeing students discover just how fun healthy eating can be 🤗🙌🏼
Through our nom! Schools program, young people build the confidence and skills to make healthier choices every day. Students roll up their sleeves for hands‑on sessions where they learn about the five core food groups, food safety, mindful eating and simple cooking skills that will set them up for life.
Teachers tell us the interactive sessions keep students engaged, curious and excited to try new foods. One even said the safe knife handling, new textures and practical cooking techniques were invaluable life skills for their class. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
