The recovery process from AN / ED has been so full of lessons and something that my body has been still experiencing after effects from. I’ve been working with some specialists and learnt that full restoration of all body systems can take a very long time to completely heal after a prolonged trauma (like starvation) so this season, despite being my strongest and having recovery of my reproductive system and weight, the other more silent body systems that are still healing had some major impacts (e.g immune system, bone density restoration). I’ve been managing frequent illness and bouts of extreme fatigue throughout juggling training and competing this season. Recovery really forces you to learn a lot about your body and get in tune with every little thing it whispers to you. I just want to encourage any athletes / any one struggle with eating / excessive exercise / RED-S / malnutrition/ weight loss to seek support ASAP because it’s something that can take a very long time to heal from so avoiding hitting rock bottom is ideal but just getting support regardless of where you are at is so crucial to recovering and getting to the other side where you are healthy and thriving 🫶🏾
