WA leading the charge in national new build craze.
New house construction in Western Australia doubled in the final quarter of 2020, according to the latest Housing Industry Association (HIA) findings.
The HIA findings show that on a national level, new home constructions reached their second highest level on record in the December 2020 quarter, surging by 27%.
WA recorded the biggest percentage increase of all states and territories, with new house constructions increasing by 108.5% during the quarter.

Surge in unit sales suggests investors are returning to market.
New reiwa.com data shows multi-residential dwelling (units, apartments and townhouses) sales are outpacing house sales for growth, which could indicate that investors are beginning to return to the Western Australian property market.
The data revealed that when comparing sales activity in the three months to March 2021 to the three months to March 2020, multi-residential dwelling sales were up 58%, while house sale volumes were up 35%.

Advocates perplexed over government’s independent assessments plan.
Disability advocates say they are confused by the federal government’s messaging around independent assessments,
after National Disability Insurance Scheme Minister Linda Reynolds confirmed the controversial reform will proceed in “some form” despite widespread opposition.
While people currently need to get reports from multiple health providers of their choosing to assess their NDIS eligibility, the government announced plans last year to introduce mandatory independent assessments (IA) conducted by NDIS-appointed healthcare professionals using standardised tools.
