Most people can tell you what their job is.

Far fewer can clearly articulate the value they're paid to create.

Michelle Redfern is paid to do one thing: close the global leadership gender gap.

As a globally recognised gender equity strategist, Michelle works at the sharp end of two connected challenges. She helps organisations design and implement gender equity and DEI strategies that actually shift culture. And she works directly with women leaders to build the strategic authority, commercial credibility, and leadership brand that gets them into consequential conversations and keeps them there.

A trusted advisor and confidante across the HR community, Michelle is known for her ability to meet leaders where they are, whether that's in the boardroom or on the frontline of people and culture work.

She is the author of The Leadership Compass: The Ultimate Guide for Women Leaders to Reach Their Full Potential, the framework that sits at the heart of her work with ambitious women who are ready to move from contribution to consequence.

At The People Unconference, Michelle will challenge us to think differently about influence, identity and what she calls positional purpose โ€” the value we are truly accountable for creating, regardless of our title.

Because when we understand the contribution we're uniquely positioned to make, we stop waiting for permission, start leading with greater intention, and create more impact in the places that matter most.

EOFY is nearly here.

Which means there are probably a few professional development budgets that need a home before 30 June.
My suggestion?

Don't spend them because they're there.

Spend them where they'll make a difference.

On the people who influence culture.

Shape leadership.

Challenge thinking.

And help create workplaces where people and performance thrive together.

If you've got someone in your team who consistently steps up, asks better questions and cares deeply about the future of work, send them to PUNC.

And if that's you, perhaps this is your sign.

Need help making the case?

I've attended enough conferences to know that some of the most valuable conversations never happen on stage.

They happen around a dinner table. When the pace slows. The titles disappear.

And people have the space to talk honestly about leadership, influence, culture and the challenges they're navigating.

That's why we created the VIP Inner Circle Experience.

Not as a premium ticket.

As a different experience.

A small group of just seven people joining me for dinner the evening before PUNC, creating space for deeper conversation, meaningful connection and the kind of dialogue that becomes increasingly rare as our calendars become busier.

Then, instead of rushing in from home the next morning, you'll wake up at The Adnate already connected to the people, the purpose and the energy of what's about to unfold.

No awkward introductions. No feeling as if you've arrived halfway through the conversation.

Just a gentler, more intentional start to the day.

By the time PUNC begins, you'll already be part of the room.

Only four places remain. Not because exclusivity is the point.
Because intimacy changes everything.

A question for CEOs, Executives and People Leaders.

If you have a professional development budget remaining this financial year, where are you investing it?

Because here's what I know.

The organisations that will thrive in the years ahead won't just have better technology, better systems or better processes.

They'll have better leaders.

Better conversations.

And stronger People & Culture teams capable of influencing the future, not just responding to it.

That's why I created The People Unconference.

๐Ÿ“ The Adnate Hotel, Perth

A day designed for experienced HR and People & Culture professionals who want to think bigger about leadership, culture, workforce challenges, organisational effectiveness and the human experience of work.

Not another conference.

Not another day of being talked at.

A room full of capable humans exploring the questions that will shape the future of work.

If you have someone in your organisation who consistently steps up, influences others, thinks strategically and cares deeply about people and performance, send them.

Then watch what they bring back.

And if you're quietly reading this thinking, "I'd love to come, but I need my boss to approve it..."

We've done some of the heavy lifting for you.

Comment BOSS below and we'll send you a ready-to-use email template that explains the value of attending and what your organisation can expect in return.

Can you believe it's only two weeks until PUNC?

Honestly, I'm not sure it's fully sunk in yet.

In two weeks' time, a room full of curious, thoughtful, courageous humans will gather in Perth to explore leadership, culture, influence, resilience, strategy and what it really means to create better workplaces.

We'll challenge ideas.

Solve real-world problems.

Meet people we haven't met yet who might just become part of our professional bench for years to come.

And somewhere between the conversations, the laughter, the deep thinking and the occasional moment of uncomfortable truth-telling, something interesting will happen.

We'll all leave a little different than we arrived.

That's the magic of getting the right people in the room.

And speaking of the room...

There are now only 25 places remaining.

So if you've been sitting on the fence, this is probably your sign.

I'd love to see you there.

A quick PUNC update.

The Founding Change-Maker release has now sold out. ๐Ÿ’œ

Standard Release tickets are well underway and, as of today, there are just 25 places remaining.

Which feels like a good reminder to mention something important.

The People Unconference was never designed to be a big event.

It was designed to be the right event.

A room full of thoughtful, curious and capable humans willing to contribute to the conversation, not just consume it.

That means seats are limited by design.

So if you've been following along thinking:

"I should probably book that..."

This is your gentle nudge.

Because I suspect the people who will get the most from PUNC already know whether this is their kind of room.

And if it is, I'd hate for you to miss out because you waited a little too long.

One idea from this week's podcast keeps following me around.

We spend a lot of time talking about intelligence at work.

Degrees.
Qualifications.
Certifications.
Accreditations.
Executive programmes.
Post-nominals.

But what if we've confused evidence of learning with evidence of capability?

I've met people with extraordinary qualifications who struggle to build trust, lead people or navigate a difficult conversation.

I've also met leaders with unconventional backgrounds who create extraordinary cultures, solve problems and inspire people to do their best work.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder whether our obsession with credentials is costing us talent.

It fuels imposter syndrome.

It narrows who gets opportunities.

And it often fills organisations with people who have travelled remarkably similar pathways.

Then we wonder why innovation feels elusive.

AI will increasingly outperform humans intellectually.

The organisations that thrive won't necessarily be the ones with the smartest people.

They'll be the ones who recognise capability in all its forms and create cultures where humans can flourish.

Maybe the future advantage isn't intelligence.
Maybe it's humanity.
What do you think?

I've had a few people reach out lately and say some version of:โฃ
And I completely understand.โฃ
โฃ
The People Unconference has been intentionally designed as a curated experience for thoughtful, capable people who care deeply about leadership, culture and the future of work.โฃ
โฃ
If you've been following along and something about it keeps speaking to you, I'd encourage you to trust that.โฃ
โฃ
Because not every event is for everyone.โฃ
โฃ
But sometimes you just know when a room is meant for you.
So if PUNC feels like a room you genuinely want to be part of, don't let timing stop you from securing your place.โฃ
โฃ
Register now, request an invoice, and then send me a message.โฃ
โฃ
We'll have a conversation and work out what makes sense.โฃ
โฃ
A deposit can secure your place, with the balance paid later.โฃ
โฃ
Simple.โฃ
โฃ
Because if this experience has been built for people like you, and it's speaking to you, then I'd much rather find a way to make it work than have you miss out altogether.โฃ
โฃ
Let's make it happen.โฃ

Lately, I've been thinking about how much of the conversation about work focuses on organisations and how little of it focuses on people.

Not employees. People.

People with dreams, relationships, families, ambitions, responsibilities, financial pressures, health challenges, hopes and fears.

People whose lives don't begin when they log on in the morning and end when they log off at night.

The more years I spend doing this work, the more convinced I become that workplaces don't exist in isolation.

They are connected to businesses.

Connected to communities.

Connected to the broader systems people move through every day.

And when one part shifts, the ripple effects are felt everywhere.

That's the thinking that sits behind HEART Workโ„ข.

Not a model. A reminder.

That if we want to shape the future of work, we need to start with a deeper understanding of the human experience.

Because everything is connected.
