There are many touted health benefits of drinking coffee, but be warned: some people are super sensitive to caffeine and find that it skyrockets their anxiety, disrupts sleep and causes gastric reflux and heart palpitations.

For others - drinking (particularly) black coffee has plenty of positive effects on health and longevity including reduced risk of cognitive decline, protective factors against cardiovascular disease, increased energy and mental performance, reduced inflammation, increased metabolism/ weight loss and even promotion of good gut baccteria!

It is easy to get carried away in the festive cheer, to have eyes bigger than your belly at the buffet table, or to feel like you are missing out if you don't try every dessert on offer. ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅฎ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿง๐Ÿจ๐Ÿง๐Ÿญ

Try listening to what your body is telling you and don't ignore your hunger and fullness cues.

Swap out the toast/muffin/cereal and choose something full of vitamins, fibre, protein and good fats.

TAKE TIME BETWEEN CELEBRATIONS TO RECALIBRATE AND GET BACK TO BASICS

The week leading up to Christmas doesn't need to be one long party. Just because you completely blow out with what you eat at one Christmas party doesn't mean the entire day or entire week has to be the same. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿพ

There are 3 meals in a day. 8 days left until Christmas. That's 24 meals. Say you have 6 Christmas events between now and Christmas day. That still leaves 18 meals for you to make better choices. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘Œ

Try and do a mini detox between festive celebrations: avoid sugar and stick to good basic whole food nutrition: clean protein with lots of veggies and minimal whole carbohydrates like rice or oats. Try not to snack between meals. ๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿ—

You'll feel better for it and enjoy the Christmas treats even more, without needing to do some huge overhaul to your diet in the New Year to make up for it. ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ„

Sugar

Sugar is a cruel foe
Addictive as co***ne

Pretty golden wrappers
Or bright colours - draw you in
But they are just a decoy
For the poison thatโ€™s within

What I ate today- 3 simple, anti-inflammatory, whole- food meals.

High in omega 3 fatty acids.
Low carb. Low sugar.
Easy, delicious, satisfying, perfect balance of macros for my body ๐Ÿ‘Œ

(forgot to include that I had 3 black coffees plus an apple and some mango with breakfast and lunch).

What you eat forms the FOUNDATIONS for good health.
