Last week we wrapped up the CALM → SAFE → EXCELLENCE Workshop, and we wanted to share what we learned.

When we asked the leaders at the start: "How confident are you leading when things get really stressful?" – most said they were neutral. By the end of the day, they had a tool that actually works: breathe work.

Here's the thing – it's not just about feeling calm. It's about making better decisions when everything feels urgent.

One leader told us: "The more calm you are with yourself and everyday pressure, the more equipped you will be for a high-pressure event."

We're calling it the CALM → SAFE → EXCELLENCE framework:

CALM = Self-regulation under pressure

SAFE = Creating a culture where people speak up

EXCELLENCE = Crisis decision-making that works

The best part? 100% of the leaders said they'd recommend this to their teams. And 80% are already using the tools and techniques.

Yesterday we ran our first Nucleus Evolution workshop; and it landed.

Everything we do is built on three principles:

✔️ Calm — because the best leaders don't react, they regulate.

✔️ Safe — because no one speaks up in a culture that punishes honesty. We didn't just talk about psychological safety as a concept.

✔️ Excellence — because good intentions don't hold up in a crisis. We ran a live simulation where leaders had to make decisions with incomplete information, competing priorities, and a clock running down. The kind of pressure that separates rehearsed capability from a hope-for-the-best approach.

The energy in the room was incredible. Honest conversations. Real self-awareness. The kind of moments where people get quiet — because the scenario hit close to home.

This statewide competition is an incredible opportunity for Year 10–12 students studying Hospitality, Commercial Cookery, Home Economics or Food Technology to connect with Country, culture, and contemporary food education.

Students work in teams to create dishes using Western Australia's unique bush foods — blending ancient knowledge with modern culinary creativity. Top teams progress from school to regional and state finals, with the chance to represent WA at the national competition in Sydney.
