Over the holidays, five of our Year 9 students had the incredible opportunity to attend the Round Square Conference in Ballarat, centred around the theme “You’re the Voice” and the ideal of Democracy.
Across six inspiring days, the girls explored the evolution of democracy from the teachings of Plato and Socrates, through to the Eureka Stockade, and into modern systems in Australia and the United Nations. Along the way, they experienced the best of Melbourne, stepped back in time at Sovereign Hill, challenged themselves through teamwork at Creswick, and built confidence in public speaking during a lively Mock UN trial.
A highlight was the deeply meaningful service component, where the students took part in a “hunger lunch” before supporting local schools to provide meals for those in need. It was an eye-opening and joy-filled experience, with friendships formed across Australia and with students from India and Bangladesh, further strengthening our connection as a proud Round Square school.

Over two inspiring Tuesdays, our Year 4 students have been joined by friends from surrounding primary schools for an interschool Inspiring Minds: Dive into STEM engineering quest.
Working in collaborative mixed-school teams, these young engineers explored the deep-sea trenches of the world’s oceans. This engaging incursion provided a hands-on STEM learning experience focussed on ocean science and sustainability.
Across a series of interactive activity stations, students applied key scientific and technological concepts including buoyancy, forces, coding, and design thinking.
As they designed, tested, and refined their ideas, students developed essential skills in problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork while responding to real-world challenges.
Thank you to our extremely talented Enrichment teacher Ms Kate Dillon for organising such engaging challenges for our students and for the expertise and assistance from our Senior School ILT Department, Ms Olivia Bozich, Ms Angleica Angelica Franco Alvarez and Mr Johnny Ho.

Congratulations to Old Collegian Inez Miller (2024) on her selection in the Australian Dolphins squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow!
Inez (pictured on the right) earned her place on the team with a remarkable performance at the Australian Swimming Trials, producing a stunning finish in the Women's 200m Freestyle Final. Sitting sixth at the 150m mark, she powered home with the fastest closing split in the field to claim 3rd place in a personal best time of 1:56.41 – almost a full second faster than her previous best 🏊♀️
Now completing her freshman year at the University of Texas, Inez's determination, resilience, and competitive spirit have been on full display as she continues to make her mark on the national and international stage.
She joins a 60-strong Australian Dolphins team selected to represent Australia at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, and we couldn't be prouder to see another PLC graduate achieving excellence in sport 👏
Congratulations, Inez! We look forward to cheering you on 🇦🇺🐬

We were honoured to welcome 2026 Australian of the Year, Astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg, through an exclusive partnership with Auspire and Australian of the Year Awards. The sold-out event left students, staff, and the wider PLC community inspired, energised, and reflecting on future pathways in STEM and beyond 🚀🌏
As Australia's first professional astronaut and the first person to train and qualify as an astronaut under the Australian flag, Katherine shared insights into her remarkable journey, including her selection by the European Space Agency from a field of 22,500 applicants to join a class of just six astronaut candidates.
Encouraging students to pursue fields they are genuinely passionate about, Katherine highlighted that success is built on curiosity, perseverance, and ambition. Students also had the opportunity to engage directly with Katherine through a Q&A, photographs, and autographs.
Adding further significance to the occasion was the connection to PLC Old Collegian Dr Megan Clark AC, founding CEO and Advisory Board Chair of the Australian Space Agency. Katherine acknowledged the important role Dr Clark has played as a mentor and supporter throughout her career.
An unforgettable opportunity for our students to hear firsthand that even the biggest dreams can become reality 🌟

Last week, our Junior School students celebrated curiosity and discovery as part of our Festival of Science, inspired by this year’s theme, ‘Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All’ 🔬🧪🌱
Students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 enjoyed a range of hands-on experiences, including sensory seeds, creating seed paper and seed bombs to plant, investigating how plants grow towards light, exploring seed dispersal, making cress heads, conducting experiments on light, static electricity, and balloon rockets with Senior School students, making slime, and even creating ice cream through science.
The week also featured exciting demonstrations showcasing Newton’s Laws of Motion and a presentation from PLC parent Mrs Goi Tanner, who shared how her passion for science led to a diverse and successful career.
A highlight of the festival was the collaboration between our Junior and Senior School students, fostering mentoring and shared learning. Throughout the week, students developed their skills in questioning, investigating, problem-solving, and innovation, proving that every great discovery begins with a seed of curiosity 🔍💡
