How beautiful was it yesterday to catch up with my K*movi Dragić from Wollongong. K*m Ivo was my Godfather. Dad came to Australia first in 1956 by boat and K*m Ivo came a little later. They lived in side by side villages in Moslavina, Croatia. When I was in my 20’s K*m Ivo took me aside and told me the story of how he was in the Bonegilla Migrant Camp and how he wrote to my father asking him for support. Dad was already working at the Port Kembla Steelworks. You could get out easier if you had somewhere to go and work/live. My dad wrote back and told K*m Ivo that “if he had only a loaf of bread he would share it with him”. He sent him a carton of ci******es and 5 Pounds. They then ran a muck for a few years before settling down. In 1977 dad had this oak wine barrel made by a local craftsmen/woodworker (Ivo Turčin). K*m Ivo saw it, loved it, and then had his made in 1979. They enjoyed their home made wine for many years. I recently restored both barrels and now they are side by side. Just like my dad Joe and K*m Ivo were.
