Some time has passed as other commitments forced priority but it was nice to finally be back creating in the workshop.

A two seater piano stool was the brief with a look of lightness balanced with strong visible construction method. Through wedged tenons and dovetails was the go, finished with carving to all stretchers. Stained Blackwood was gently sanded to highlight each carving. Reclaimed Redgum used for slatted seat with Bog Oak accents. More photos to follow.

Some time ago I had the pleasure of making my daughter's first proper bed. I remember her being swallowed by the size of this bed in comparison to what she had before. Now as she's grown, it's proportionate to her and I'm now considering the next bed I have to make. The 'guardian' owl is carved into the headboard and filled with black resin, I look to this guy to protect and watch over her as she travels her dreams. The frame is made from American Oak with ancient Bog Oak accents at the base of the legs.

I love the mystery surrounding boxes, the need to know what's inside. I wanted to create a sense of ceremony also. These 8 individual watch boxes are housed inside a larger box made from Tassie blackbutt (see earlier post). Each lid has an inlay of different timber species to help remember where your special watch hides. However I think it's fun to take all the lids off just to check out the collection.

Transforming internal areas of a 1950's weatherboard house. Using Vic Ash studs from previously demolished walls to create this 'retro' panel adds character and interest to a divide between two rooms. Even though the house has charm it was lacking in details. Apart from beautiful timber flooring throughout, the inside felt a little lacking in identity. This can work to your advantage working with a blank canvas gives you more scope to add pieces to your liking without conflict of design, style or period.

Second piece to sit along side the previous wardrobe I recently finished. Once again the timber is left over from my renovation although a big shout out to Burt from for giving me a load of old wall studs also, cheers mate๐Ÿ‘. This low unit will double as a play surface and a window seat for my 7 year old daughter.

During a recent refurb on my 1950's house I knocked out 3 walls to open up the area....the timber studs used were a combination of Vic ash, messmate and even spotted gum. It was always my intention to repurpose what I could and this wardrobe for my 7year old daughter is the first piece using the reclaimed timber. More to follow in the coming weeks.

Been a while with all these lockdowns, homeschooling and a decision to start a home renovation but this hall console is now done and in its new home just in time before Victoria's 6th lockdown. Phew ๐Ÿ˜…. Many thanks to Helen for your patience during this time.๐Ÿ™

Tassie Blackwood unit safely delivered to a great client in Hawthorne. It takes some time to handcraft the dovetails and through tenons but itโ€™s what I love to do.
