DESIGN // CREATE // MAINTAIN - Winter garden maintenance prevents pest overgrowth, protects plant roots from freezing or rotting, and prepares the soil so your garden thrives in spring. It differs significantly from summer care because plants are mostly dormant, meaning you need to prune less, water much less often, and apply a layer of insulation. Adding compost and organic matter during the colder months allows nutrients to breakdown and integrate the soil naturally. Winter is the time for heavy or structural pruning of deciduous trees, roses and shrubs to remove dead or diseased wood. As the warmer months are about activating blooms and harvesting, winter focuses on plant dormancy and root development. DESIGN // CONSTRUCT // MAINTAIN - This compact rear garden has been carefully designed to maximise both function and visual appeal within a limited footprint. A circular lawn area creates a strong focal point, softening the surrounding lines while introducing a sense of openness and balance to the space. The combination of bluestone crazy paving and hardwood timber decking helps to define separate zones for entertaining and relaxation, while maintaining a seamless flow throughout the garden. Each material was selected to complement the contemporary architecture while adding warmth, texture and character. To enhance privacy and soften the structure of the space, layered planting and carefully selected trees provide year-round greenery and a lush backdrop. The raised children’s garden bed not only maximises planting opportunities within the compact layout but also creates depth and visual interest and allows interaction. Integrated timber bench seating and a dedicated barbecue zone ensure the garden functions as a practical entertaining area, proving that even a small outdoor space can successfully accommodate multiple purposes while still feeling open, inviting and connected to nature. ̇gn

DESIGN // CREATE // MAINTAIN - Boston Ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata) Walking past this incredible example of Boston Ivy yesterday is clear to see that it’s no secret that this is one of our favourite climbers that we specify in many of our garden designs. Boston Ivy is a fast growing deciduous climbing vine known for its lush summer foliage and dramatic red autumn colour. Despite the name however it’s native to East Asia particularly China, Korea and Japan not Boston.
