MAGNET's SILENT AUCTION SNEAK PEEK #2
During his long and stellar career in advertising, photographer JOHN STREET was known for the intricate collage images he created in collaboration with designer SUE TILLEY, featuring plants, fruit and vegetables. (Come to MAGNET to see two terrific examples of their work in our REMEMBERING Fundraiser exhibition.......including a pig created from thin slices of watermelon........!)
In his later years Street returned to collage using flowers, leaves and other natural materials to create most beautiful artworks with a strong Japanese influence. In the last year of his life he worked on some small designs composed of photography, collage and calligraphy in collaboration with DANIEL SILVER at Photonet Fine Art Printing at MAGNET. We have been delighted to receive two of these small works and are offering them in our Silent Auction. We are grateful to the Street family for this generous donation.
Come and place your bids for these unique artworks, among the last ever made by one of the modern greats of photography both here and in London.
Both pictures are printed on exotic handmade papers and framed in simple white acrylic frames.

YOU'VE GOTTA SEE THIS!
It's only taken her 40-odd years.....but finally here's an exhibition of her 1970s Punk photography by STELLA SALLMAN, Prahran College alumna - and is it ever well worth waiting for!
Immerse yourself in that extraordinary world (or re-immerse if you're old enough) vividly captured by Sallman. After showing examples of her student and current work in the two big Prahran alumni exhibitions of 2025 : "The Basement" at MAPh and "Beyond The Basement" at MAGNET, she's finally stepping out in her own right. Don't miss this - it could be the most exciting show you see this winter. We can't wait!

SILENT AUCTION #1
We're so pleased to present the first of our seven prints in our REMEMBERING Silent Auction.
"Champagne Lady" (1/25) is a wonderful portrait of a (doubtless) well-heeled member of The Tavern Club in Chicago by the American photographer, MAGGIE DIAZ.
Wikipedia tells us: "During the 1950s, Diaz became resident photographer at Chicago's famous cultural hub The Tavern Club. The club was founded in 1927 'to encourage the arts, intellectual recreation and good humored interest in life.' Diaz captured images of patrons, dancers and many Jazz greats including the Ramsey Lewis Trio."
This image is certainly one of her best-known from her Chicago period and we're delighted to have been donated this print, the first of a new edition.
To place a bid in the Silent Auction - either come to MAGNET (and enjoy the complete exhibition of over 100 prints in REMEMBERING , our Fundraiser for Dementia Australia) or contact us at the gallery to place a bid by phone : (03 8589 0371) .
Bids close on SUNDAY 28 JUNE at 2.30pm
