'The "Claire" rocker is one a series of petite chairs I designed and named for my youngest daughter. The hallmark of these chairs is the sharply bent trapezoidal back bow. This rocker version of the armchair is executed in natural black walnut wood with hornbeam wedges for contrast. I normally steam bend green ring porous species like oak or ash, so bending the arm and back bow from dry walnut lumber was a new challenge. The rocker features a completely blended leg to rocker transition as well as details like the carefully rounded protruding spindle ends and carved handholds. This chair was built while I was serving as Artist in Residence at Wendell Castle Workshop in 2026.'
