Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
It's an important opportunity to raise awareness of the abuse, mistreatment and neglect of older people, and to remind ourselves that everyone deserves to age with dignity, safety and respect.
This year, the campaign highlights the ways older women can experience ageism and gender inequality throughout their lives, and how these experiences can increase vulnerability to elder abuse.
At AMCS, we work alongside older people every day, supporting their wellbeing, independence and right to live free from abuse, discrimination and harm. We all have a role to play in creating communities where older people feel safe, valued and respected.
If you are experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing, elder abuse, help is available. Contact the free Elder Abuse Helpline on 1300 368 821, Monday to Friday, 10am–5pm.
If you are concerned about an older person, encourage them to seek support or speak with a trusted health professional.

Have you ever thought about volunteering with seniors in your community? 💛
Sometimes, the most meaningful thing you can give someone is your time.
For many older people living alone, a friendly visit, a conversation, or simply having someone to share a laugh with can brighten their entire week. Through our Volunteer Visiting Program, volunteers help create connection, companionship, and a sense of belonging for seniors in the community.
You don’t need special experience - just kindness, compassion, and a willingness to connect.
If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to give back, we’d love to hear from you.

This National Reconciliation Week, we take time to learn, listen and reflect.
National Reconciliation Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn more about the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and to think about how we can build a more respectful and inclusive future together.
This year's theme, All In, reminds us that creating positive change is everyone's responsibility. Even small actions, such as listening, learning and showing respect, can help strengthen our communities.
At AMCS, we are proud to support diverse communities and believe that understanding, respect and connection help bring people together.

At AMCS, we believe support for older Australians should feel familiar, respectful, and culturally safe.
Through the Support at Home program, we support multicultural communities across Melbourne and Geelong, helping senior Australians remain independent at home with services that respect their language, culture, and individual needs.
Whether you’re a family member supporting a loved one, a community organisation, health professional, or cultural leader, we’d love to connect.
From referrals and partnerships to simply learning more about our services, AMCS is here to support multicultural communities with culturally safe care and support at home.
