CHROFI
Architecture | Urban Strategy Designers are often defined as form-givers and problem-solvers and this places focus on the answers, often too quickly.
What we do, is help our clients find the right questions. The most valuable, interesting opportunities, the most relevant challenges and the inter-relationships. We do this through analysis and importantly by imagining new possibilities. We make the discovery tangible through logic and emotion so others can engage into the process.

The Yiningma and Burragula lookouts now sit nestled in the recovering landscape of North Head, proudly standing sentry at the gates of the harbour. The robust and elemental sandstone pieces rest quietly as new part of the rocky composition of the headland and the podium cantilevers on the dramatic edge of the headland, tracing the indiscernible patterns and contours of the landscape below. Through a close design partnership between and CHROFI a unique experience of the harbour was created that emphasises a connection to place and personal ‘reading’ of Country. At this point, perched above the Tea Trees and Banksia Scrub, one can begin to comprehend the history, beauty, and vastness of the land of Car-rang-gel.

A big congratulations to CO_AP, TARN, Plus Minus Design & Studio JEF on a tremendous result in the NGA Sculpture Garden competition.
We enjoyed our collaboration with Mcgregor Coxall, Judy Watson , Arup and Atelier Ten and it was an honour to participate. Our scheme features mass timber construction, seamlessly integrating architectural and structural principles with a playful nod to Madigan’s Trihex geometric language. Nestled among sculptures and the landscape, it embodies a quiet yet bold simplicity.
We would like to thank all members of the team:

CHROFI - Architecture
Judy Watson - Indigenous Culture Consultant and Artist
Arup - Structural Engineer
Atelier Ten - ESD

We are very excited to hear that the Tweed Mall Masterplan on Bundjalung Country has been approved by Tweed Shire Council and Joint Regional Planning Panel. The project has been a close collaboration with landscape architects for our client Elanor Investors Group. A project that has been three years in the making through State Agencies and Tweed Shire Council Design Review Panel supported by the NSW Government Architect Design Review process. The redevelopment of the large 1970s shopping mall preempts a denser urban future for a rapidly growing region with some incredible natural assets on its doorstep. The project will deliver a diverse and thriving destination and place to live in Tweed with a green public heart at its core. We look forward to the next steps and will share more in the coming weeks.

A design team comprising Plus Architecture, Architecture AND, and CHROFI has won a design excellence competition for the Gosford Alive development, a regionally significant project set to revitalise an entire city block in Gosford’s civic centre.
The winning concept selected by Universal Property Group for the former Kibbleplex shopping centre site aims to dramatically enhance the urban landscape. Reimagining a place for people at the edge of the city, the new precinct will provide approximately 650 high-quality homes while contributing to the area’s vibrancy through a mix of public and communal spaces at the ground level.

What a journey. Our work on Tamarama SLSC began in 2009 and after 15 years and challenges aplenty the renovated club was officially inaugurated over the weekend. So proud of the whole team, to for the determination to see it through, to the club for their patience and vision, and to for guiding it to the finish line. A very well deserved drink on the deck.

Well! That was unexpected. Delighted to see North Head Lookouts receive the Architecture Medallion 2024 at last nights awards amongst some intimidating competition. Lovely also to share the stage with our companions and collaborators
From the jury: “At its core, this project is about fostering relationships with country that are reciprocal and respectful. It involves engaging with Indigenous knowledge and recognises that country is not merely a backdrop for human activities but a living entity with its own agency and significance.”
It capped off a great night for the studio with 4 awards including the Robert Woodward Award for North Head and 2 commendations for The Pavilion Performing Arts Sutherland in the Sustainable and Public categories.

Proud as punch to have 4 shortlistings in this years NSW AIA Awards. The Pavilion Performing Arts Sutherland is up for the Public and Sustainable categories, and North Head Lookouts is up for Small Project and the EMAGN award. As usual blown away by the quality of work in this city represented in those shortlists. Being constantly pushed and inspired by your peers is a wonderful thing.
