What’s an apprentice do at RMS? Lots of head jobs! This is number 4 for the year.

For a workshop that’s renown for their work on Nissans we sure are seeing a lot of Toyotas lately.

Injectors and intake clean for this 1HZ before it goes on the dyno

Glenn’s NP300 in for a Superior Engineering 2” lift kit complete with weld in coil tower bracing, adjustable remote res shocks and rear airbags.

There’s always plenty of banter between patrol and cruiser owners. But we’re not biased, we will fix both of them when they break.

Funnily enough this pair decided to change it up a bit with the 1HD-T doing a head gasket and the TD42 with a suspected main bearing issue.

We say it all the time but there’s still people out there that don’t want to believe it.

More boost does not equal more power!

This reasonably stock TD came in for a tune and we noticed the wastegate line was blocked off. Simply reconnecting the wastegate dropped boost from 22psi down to 14psi and immediately gave more power and allowed the engine to rev out much easier. We were then able to tune the pump to match.
Only a 10HP jump in power but big numbers were not the aim, just a safe and reliable tune.

Unfortunately the injector pump was far from good and although it could deliver some good fuel, timing and governor set up was very average but we did the best we could without removing the pump. Once again proving that there’s more to making power than fuel and boost.

Young fellas should know better than to make bets about TD42s with us.

Dylan has been talking up his TD42 for a while now with claims of big horsepower.

The bet was made, that we would run it up for free if it made 300HP or more. If not, he had to pay up.

Seat of the pants dyno said maybe 270 on the test drive and it wasn’t far off. Still impressive numbers for simply bolting stuff on. This is just another case of more boost does not equal more power and everything has a sweet spot. Wastegates play an important role and EMP kills power.

As a consolation prize we armed Dylan with the info to help get this thing over the 300 mark.
