We’re so excited to open applications for Her Australian Songbook.

This project brings together Australian contemporary pop music, chamber music, and some of the incredible women creating music in this country.

We are inviting four emerging female composers from across Australia to join an exciting creative team of genre-bending composers—Natalie Nicolas, Nat Bartsch, and Ella Macens— to create a new arrangement for national performance by Muses Trio as part of the project.

Selected composers will receive mentorship sessions with Natalie Nicolas, workshopping with Muses Trio, complimentary tickets to premiere performances, and the opportunity to have their work recorded and performed as part of the Her Australian Songbook tour.

Whether you’re already working across contemporary and classical spaces, or you’re simply passionate about arrangement, storytelling, and Australian music, we’d love to hear from you.

To apply, submit:
• Two works of your choice (any length)
• A short biography
• A statement (100 words or less) about why this opportunity matters to you & what song you want to arrange

Applications close 30 June 2026 via [email protected]

We can’t wait to discover new voices and celebrate the next generation of female composers alongside some of Australia’s most inspiring songwriters and musicians.

More information via the Muses Trio website.

We are all about women supporting women, and what a fantastic example with Emily Granger's forthcoming album release of music by all Australian women composers. One day, hopefully this won't be a big deal, but right now it's so important (and awesome). Check out Emily's national tour dates, coming to a city near you 🤩

I’m so excited to finally share this, my second solo album, and seventh studio album, A Thing Of Beauty, is out on July 3rd!🤍
All works by Australian women composers, including brand new commissions by .kleinig & .
I made this album because, honestly I really needed it. It has helped me work through so much and feels like the perfect time to be releasing an album just like this. In a world that rarely slows down, this one is an invitation to pause and soak in unapologetic beauty. I can’t wait for you to hear it!

Our final performer in our Through Stone and Light performance is Ed le Brocq, whose dulcet tones are beloved by ABC Classic listeners across the country. Ed will be weaving in a spoken commentary about the music and composers' lives, Florence Price and Dobrinka Tabakova.

Ed Le Brocq is a writer, musician and broadcaster. He was born on the White Cliffs of Dover and began playing music at six years old. He studied music in Manchester, Berlin and London, played professionally in the UK and Hong Kong and moved to Australia in 2003. Ed is the presenter of ABC Classic’s Weekend Breakfast and Music Class, with Genevieve Lang.

Ed has written five books, including Cadence, about his journey by bicycle from England to Hong Kong with only a violin for company, Danger Music, describing his year teaching music in Afghanistan, and Sonam and the Silence, a children’s book about the importance of music. Ed’s books have been shortlisted for several prestigious awards, including the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards.

Ed was born Emma and transitioned just before his fiftieth birthday. Better late than never.

Introducing Through Stone and Light guest violinist: Rebecca Seymour.

I love to play the violin. Playing as a form of expression seems one of the most natural things in the world to me, and I love the feeling of being able to communicate with people through music. It’s the universal language.

I started playing the violin when I was very young, as a child of the Suzuki Method. After graduating the method, I received a Bachelor of Music (Performance) (Hons) and a Master of Philosophy (Music Performance) from the University of Queensland studying with Spiros Rantos. During my studies I participated in masterclasses both nationally and internationally - including summer mastercourse programmes at the world-renowned Accademia Chigiana (Siena, Italy) under Giuliano Carmignola - and with the likes of David Adams, David Takeno, the Takacs Quartet, Henk Guittart and Rudolf Koelman.

I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a wide and varied experience playing and touring (nationally and internationally) with a number of ensembles including The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Circa Contemporary Circus, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, Australian Youth Orchestra and Queensland Youth Symphony. In addition to orchestral work, I absolutely love to play chamber music – a highlight being a Winter Residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada) as a member of the Elston Quartet. I regularly perform throughout Queensland, and as part of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s chamber music series.

Outside of music I just love doing life with my husband and our two sons – life is often chaotic and noisy in our house, but I wouldn’t change it for anything!

Nicole has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as well as the West Australian, Canberra, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras. In Germany she performed with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker and the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. A passionate chamber musician, Nicole has performed in the Kultur am Nachmittag Series in Stuttgart, the Brisbane Music Festival, and the Southern Cross Soloists and frequently performs in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players series in Brisbane.

Alongside her playing career, she has always been a passionate teacher and enjoyed the fulfilment of helping young students find their musical voice.

One of our two featured guest violinists for Through Stone and Light: Sonia Wilson.

Sonia is a violinist who loves all types of music. As a first violinist in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra she regularly gets her fill of symphonic masterpieces, ballet and opera greats and outside of her job loves to guest with chamber ensembles and explore more contemporary performance.

She’s recently dipped her toe into acting with a regional tour of ACO’s “There’s a Sea in my Bedroom” so might aim for Broadway next. When she’s not playing violin she can be found hiking, baking or playing with her dog, Astro.
