I went a bit quiet for the past couple of weeks š«£
My daughter just finished her Easter school holidays and she finally went back to school yesterday haha!
I slowed down a little during the break.
Spent some time wandering around Fitzroy, one of my favourite spots in Melbourne. So many lovely little shops and thoughtful designs everywhere.
I also dropped by the Rose Street Artistsā Market.
Random memory...I actually had a stall there for 2 weekends a few years ago.
Still feels really special when I think about it.
And last weekend I went to The Makers & Shakers Market in Carlton. So many talented makers. I couldāve stayed there all day.
Just walking around like this somehow gave me a lot of ideas! Now my head is FULL of ideas.

Thereās something special about leftover threads.
They carry tiny pieces of past creations.
The colors, textures, memories.
Instead of throwing them away,
I turn them into the heart of a new temari.
Simple Temari Pattern - Chrono Bloom
What if time could bloom?
Your dawn meets my dusk.
The warmth of my summer reaches into the first breath of your winter.
Across distance, across seasons, we are still connected by the same thread.
Chrono Bloom is a Temari piece inspired by time, rhythm, and connection.
Stitched using Descending Herringbone (Sh*tagake Chidori Kagari), each row tucks gently beneath the last, building a layered, geometric flower that feels both structured and alive.
Full tutorial will be shared on my Youtube channel this weekend.
See you in the videoš„°

This is what it turns into š
Yubinuki x Temari
In my previous post, I hinted that this pattern connects to another traditional Japanese craft.
That craft is⦠Yubinuki
By borrowing the stitching structure of Yubinuki and combining it with Chidori Kagari, this pattern becomes an obi on a temari.
And this is exactly why Iām so obsessed with temari.
Even the simplest stitch can evolve endlessly, just by changing color, divisions, or spacing.
And the most fascinating part?
You often canāt fully predict the final result, until the last few rounds.
That moment of surprise is what keeps me coming back āØ
Whether youāre a beginner or experienced, letās keep exploring together.
Todayās video still features Chidori Kagari stitched around the wrapping band.
Itās the same technique as yesterdayās video, the only difference is that, you skip one guideline while stitching š„°
The stitching often used for simple obi designs is Chidori Kagari (å鳄ććć). The name chidori describes the gentle up-and-down movement of the stitch, like the small steps of a little bird.
In this video, stitches are along with each neighboring guidelines.
A small change that adds more interesting to the Temari Obi
