Our Year 10 Health and Social Support students recently participated in a Diversity Excursion, gaining valuable insight into the importance of equitable health access for people from different backgrounds.

From exploring accessibility at Adelaide Railway Station, to learning about cultural identity at the Migration Museum, visiting Nunkuwarrin Yunti to understand culturally responsive Aboriginal health care, and finishing with a taste of diverse cultural foods at the Adelaide Central Market, students experienced diversity in meaningful and practical ways.

These opportunities help build empathy, understanding and awareness - essential qualities for future work in health and community services.

As part of National Reconciliation Week, Findon High School students came together to reflect on this year’s theme, “All In.”

We were honoured to welcome Kadijah McPherson, a proud Barkindji and Kamilaroi woman, former Findon High School student, and Administration & Project Officer with Reconciliation SA, and Keira Holberton, a proud Adnyamathanha woman and Learning & Development Specialist Trainee with KSJ Consulting.

Kadijah and Keira shared their experiences, perspectives, and hopes for reconciliation, encouraging students to consider the role we all play in building respectful relationships and a more inclusive future.

Thank you to Kadijah and Keira for sharing your stories and inspiring our school community.

🌍 Diversity in Action

This week, our Health and Social Support students took part in a powerful panel event inspired by the ABC series You Can’t Ask That.

Guests from a range of backgrounds including Aboriginal, disability, migrant and elderly answered bold, student-generated questions with honesty and heart.

The session challenged assumptions and encouraged students to reflect on what it means to be an inclusive, respectful health professional.

A huge thank you to our amazing panelists for sharing your lived experiences and making a lasting impact on our students!

🎉 Celebrating Connection Across Generations! 🎉

Our Year 11 Health and Social Support students recently joined the City of Charles Sturt Council’s Ageing Well Team to celebrate the completion of the Age-Friendly Community Project.

Over the past year, students participated in ageism awareness training and had the opportunity to connect with older Australians, sharing stories, experiences and valuable life lessons. These meaningful interactions helped build understanding, respect and stronger community connections across generations.

The celebration event provided a wonderful opportunity for students and community members to reunite, reflect on their shared journey and celebrate the learning and achievements that emerged from the project.

A big thank you to the City of Charles Sturt Council and everyone involved for making this experience so rewarding. We look forward to continuing our partnership and creating more opportunities for collaboration and connection in the future.

Last week, Findon Technical College Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering students interested in university pathways had the privilege of meeting with Christiane Brendel, Partner at KPMG , and John Haese, Executive Director, Infrastructure Advisory .

What began as a short meeting quickly evolved into an engaging discussion as students heard firsthand about the diverse pathways, opportunities, and experiences that have shaped successful careers in engineering.

Students left feeling inspired and even more excited about their own futures, including the journey to Flinders University that will begin through our Enabling Studies program in Semester 2.

A huge thank you to Christiane and John for sharing their time, insights, and advice with our students.

💻🔐 **Hack the Mainframe: Cyber Security **

Our Year 10 Digital Technologies students recently stepped into the role of master hackers, taking on a series of cyber security challenges designed to test their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Working in teams, they uncovered clues, pieced together passwords from chat messages, decrypted login credentials, and even impersonated a staff member in an attempt to crack the safe and breach the "mainframe."

Through the experience, students gained valuable insights into digital privacy and cyber security, reflecting on how easily security can be compromised through simple mistakes. One key takeaway? Having a password is important—but keeping it written on a note under your keyboard probably isn't the best strategy! 🔒

A fun and engaging immersion that highlighted the growing importance of cyber security in our digital world.
