The @watchandclockmakersau will hold its 2026 National Conference from Friday 23 October to Sunday 25 October at the Stamford Plaza Hotel, 111 Little Collins Street, Melbourne. This year’s three-day event will be the WCA’s most significant gathering yet, headlined by internationally acclaimed independent watchmaker Roger W Smith OBE. With more than 35 years of experience and widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost living horologists, Roger Smith continues the legacy of his mentor, the legendary George Daniels, and is celebrated for his mastery of hand-built mechanical watchmaking. Based on the Isle of Man, Roger Smith produces some of the rarest and most sought-after timepieces in contemporary horology. His work exemplifies the highest standards of craftsmanship, innovation, and traditional British watchmaking. The Conference cosists of: ⌚ Friday 23 October — Members Only Welcome and cocktails ⌚ Saturday 24 October — Members Only Advanced horological presentations, demonstrations, and specialist discussions. ⌚ Sunday 25 October — Open to the Public A rare opportunity to hear directly from Roger W. A good representation on why watches need servicing every 3 - 5 years.
After this time, seals perish allowing dust and moisture to enter the watch causing rust and debris build up. Old lubricants thicken and start to stain the gear train causing irregular behaviour and poor timekeeping.
Always take your watch to a qualified Watchmaker for regular interventions.
