Heads Up: Australia-Wide AusAlert Test – Monday 27 July

On Monday 27 July at 2:00 pm AEST (1:30 pm ACST / 12:00 pm AWST), the Australian Government will conduct the first nationwide test of the new AusAlert emergency warning system.

If you have a compatible mobile phone, tablet or smartwatch, you can expect:
• A loud siren-like alert for around 10 seconds
• Your device may vibrate
• A message clearly stating “TEST MESSAGE – NO ACTION REQUIRED”

This is only a test. There is no action required.

A few important things to know:
• The alert may sound even if your device is on Silent or Do Not Disturb.
• If you have a hidden or emergency phone, or you’re in an environment where a loud alert could cause concern, consider turning the device off or placing it into Airplane Mode before the scheduled test.
• Not every device will receive the alert at exactly the same time, and some older devices may not receive it at all.

The new AusAlert system is designed to deliver faster, more reliable emergency warnings during bushfires, floods, severe weather and other major incidents using cell broadcast technology.
