Sammy Babol Jewell, Australian Champion, 54kg lacing em up in Kuala Lumpur.

Sammy had a walkover in the first, then beat the Malaysian in his home town (dropping him with an uppercut), lost in the semi final to Botswana winning a Bronze medal for Australia.

Mitev Boxing together with Crown Prosecutor Abi Rajkumar, have set up a program to give at-risk kids involved with the justice system a chance to connect and learn about discipline and respect for themselves which in turn would lead to respect for others.
It’s a long process but if we can change a few attitudes we’re already winning. 👊🤜👊🏆

I remember working with this young man whilst in the Australian team years ago. Very charismatic and a will to succeed that had to be seen to be believed. He was like a young Ali telling everyone how he was gonna be the champ etc.

50 pro fights later he’s about to have another shot at glory.

I wanna address something, I could be wrong but I’ve been in this game for too long to know better…
I don’t understand why a team celebrates a silver medal when theres only 2 people in the division. Don’t celebrate a silver medal if you lost in a 2 man comp. (‘We won silver’) I see it in the paper and social media so and so won a silver medal. Blah blah blah… You didn’t win s**t. You lost! When you celebrate this fake victory, the young athlete will need to back it up with lies, lies that will turn into bigger lies as they get older. Lies that are pushed onto them by their coach/coaches. You’re better off being honest and saying they missed out on the gold to a better fighter than they won a silver medal. They didn’t win anything. They lost. Be real about it. Don’t glamorize it. Big deal. We lost to the better fighter! Come back next time and do better!!!

Hi guys.

Once again it’s been a few hectic weeks of preparation and good competition.

We competed in Darwin at the NT titles winning 3/3 bouts. Gaj and Liz fully dominated their opponents, Reef won a split against his tough more experienced nemesis. An easy win I think. Thanks to our champ Josh Cercarelli for helping out.

Next we competed in Alice Springs at the Dust Up against tough, highly experienced boxers from SA. We fell short in the 2 senior bouts. Reef won his bout.

We came home with 1/3 wins from Alice but knew we were against the odds. Challenge accepted!!! It’s good to see where we’re at and show the boxers where we need to be.

Zias opponent pulled out so she had to sit out.

It’s back to the drawing board for us.
