Darwin Chess Lessons

Extremely proud of my students for competing in the Darwin Social Chess Club tournament this evening. It's so exciting seeing their progress playing competitively.

On Australia day this year I had a chess station at the Festival of Us event. It was one of the best days of chess I've ever had. Over the course of 7 hours I played:

-kids who knew the basics but needed some direction for strategy and tactics

-adults who didn't know a single thing about playing but appreciated being shown how the pieces move and what check and checkmate actually mean

-older adults who used to play a lot when they were younger and loved reconnecting with the game with someone

-young adults who started playing a lot during the peak of Covid lock downs

-teenagers who were quite strong and provided some real competitive games

-a lot of people from overseas who learnt and competed in chess in their home countries

And for all of these, friends and family watching intently and engaging with each other
