Keep an eye out for these dodgy practices. Thanks to The Growing Space for sharing 👍

🤔 What is a Conflict of Interest for NDIS supports and services?
🔍 It happens when a NDIS provider has a personal or money connection with another provider that could help you in ways that are best for the providers, but not for you!

📢 It is important that providers tell you about any conflicts to keep things fair and to protect you and your choices.

📜 The NDIS Code of Conduct is a law that has rules about conflicts of interest.

❗ ALL providers, even if they are unregistered, have to follow these laws.

🫴 Examples of conflict of interest:

- 💲 A provider manages your NDIS plan and pushes you to buy their other services

- 🗑 A provider pushes you to dump other providers and use only their services

- 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A support worker tells you to use a provider business without telling you it is their family or friend who owns it

- 😶‍🌫️ A provider hides cheaper or better service options from you

✅ What NDIS providers need to do:

- 👍 Be honest about their services and other options

- 💬 Tell you if there is a possible conflict of interest

- 🤝 Make sure their advice is clear and unbiased

❓ Have you experienced a conflict of interest before?

🔗 You can read about your rights from the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission website (the link will be in the comments at 9am).

Great advice from ! Document your support and be ready to provide evidence of future necessity ✅

Today, while my brave and passionate comrades flew in from all over the country at the last minute to present their submissions in person in Melbourne, despite battling accessibility barriers at every turn, I was attending an information session run by the amazing Sam from The Growing Space.

There was SOOOO much information covered, but two things really stood out to me!

The first was that evidence is going to matter more than ever. Whether we like it or not, the NDIA is increasingly expecting people to demonstrate not only what supports they receive, but why those supports are needed and what role they play in a person’s life.

Reports, assessments, support logs, shift notes, examples of barriers, examples of risks, and examples of what happens when supports aren’t there are all becoming increasingly important. For support workers, this means moving beyond simply documenting that community access occurred and instead demonstrating what support was actually provided, what barriers existed, how those barriers were addressed, and what outcomes were achieved.

Good evidence may become one of the strongest protections participants have.

The second was that many of the changes people are hearing about are still proposed changes. There is a lot of fear, uncertainty and misinformation circulating throughout the disability community right now, and understandably so.

However, many of the reforms being discussed are still contained within legislation that has not yet passed Parliament. The outcome is not yet final. Advocacy matters. The thousands of submissions matter. The people who travelled across the country to speak today matter. Every person writing to MPs, speaking to the media, sharing their story, attending forums, and refusing to be silent matters!

My biggest takeaway from today wasn’t panic. It was preparation.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Know your rights. Keep good records. Gather evidence. Stay informed. And keep advocating.

Because people with disability should not have to constantly prove their humanity, their support needs, or their right to participate in their communities 💜

Harm Tracker, link below, is your place to report any detrimental changes to your NDIS plan. Thanks to and for sharing this ❤️

Has anyone been impacted by changes already, even though the proposed legislative changes have NOT been passed into law yet?

If so,
WE NEED YOU TO TELL YOUR STORY!

Our amazing friends at Australian Neurodivergent Parents Association - ANPA have created a harm tracker for you to document cuts or changes to your plan.

Anyone can use this, at any time! If you have a plan, or a family member has plan and you’ve had a plan change or cuts, then tell us about it.

“MAKE HARM VISIBLE
WHAT IS THE HARM TRACKER?

The Harm Tracker is a national tool to report how NDIS cuts are hurting people. It is an independent, grassroots, public interest project. It is co-designed with Disabled people, led by Disabled people and created in partnership with Allied Health workers.

If you or someone you support has lost services, had harmful changes to your plan, or been left without the help you need - the Harm Tracker is your place to speak up.

We collect real stories from people all over Australia to show what’s really happening. Your voice helps expose the impact of these cuts and push for change.“

One of the most stark realities for a person with disabilities- a provider is a paid support, not a friend. Let’s remember our professional boundaries ALWAYS ❤️

Know how to respond ✅

There’s still time to make a submission to the Senate about the proposed NDIS Amendment- thanks to People With disabilities WA ❤️

We pushed for more time. The Senate Inquiry into the proposed NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 has now extended submissions until close of business (COB) Monday 1 June 2026.

Three extra days is welcome. But let’s be clear: that is still not genuine, accessible consultation for legislation that will significantly change how people access and use the NDIS.

People with disability deserve time to read, understand and respond to legislation this significant.

We’ve created resources and a submission template to help people have their say: https://buff.ly/5Tbwi1R
