As we head into the Easter break, weโre looking forward to a rest after a very productive first quarter of 2025. January kept us busy in the lab as we prepared for our NATA accreditation auditโwith approvals now imminent. A huge thank you to the team for their dedication and attention to detail throughout the process.
In February, our Sales Director travelled to Macau for the Vaisala APAC Partner Meeting, where decarbonisation and sustainability were key themes. Itโs clear that accurate measurement continues to play a critical role across industries in driving meaningful change.
We also wrapped up a successful project for a leading building contractor this monthโdelivering a remote control system with automated valves to shut off water in case of leaks. The system provides remote visibility and protection, and is another example of the great work our technicians are delivering on the ground.
Wishing all our clients, partners and colleagues a safe and relaxing Easter break. ๐ฃ

๐จโ๐ซLet's talk about wind! Anemometers have been used for centuries to measure wind speed and direction, and they've come a long way since the first recorded invention in 1450 by Leon Battista Alberti.
Back then, the mechanical anemometer consisted of a vertical tube with small cups attached to it. As the wind blew, the cups would spin, and the rate of spin could be used to measure wind speed. It was a pretty nifty idea at the time, but over the centuries, anemometers continued to evolve.
In 1846, John Thomas Romney Robinson developed the first four-cup anemometer, which became the standard design for many years. Can you imagine trying to hold onto a four-cup anemometer during a hurricane? Yikes!
Fast forward to the early 20th century, and electric anemometers became more common, using electrical signals to measure wind speed and direction. Then, in 1926, the first Doppler radar was developed, which allowed for more accurate measurement of wind speed and direction in a larger area. Talk about a game-changer!
Today, there are many different types of anemometers available, from handheld models to those designed for use in weather stations or other professional applications. And if you're looking for a reliable anemometer, look no further than Hinco Instruments based in Western Australia. We sell a variety of anemometers, including models from Kestrel AU, Lambrecht, and Lutron. Lambrecht, in particular, has a fascinating history dating back to the 1800s when the company was founded in Germany by Johann Baptist Lambrecht. Today, they're known for their high-quality weather instruments and continue to innovate in the field of meteorology.
So the next time you feel a gust of wind, remember the humble anemometer and the centuries of scientific innovation that have gone into measuring the power of the wind. And if you need to measure wind speed and direction for any reason, be sure to check out the awesome anemometers available today!
