👩‍🌾 Can carbon credits or carbon-neutral certification provide livelihood benefits for smallholder farmers in Papua New Guinea?
🌴 Sustineo has been exploring this question since 2020, through a series of projects in collaboration with the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions, Nakau, and a range of PNG-based partners, supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
We’ve just wrapped up the final project in this series. So, what did we find, and what does it mean for the future of carbon and coffee in PNG?
👉 Read our latest insights:
Carbon and coffee in PNG – what’s the story? We’ve just wrapped up more than 5 years’ work on coffee, cocoa and carbon in PNG. So, what have we learned? Authors: Dr Almah Tararia and Kate Lanyon

Sustineo Senior Consultant and Gender Expert, Dr Asenati Chan Tung, recently completed the online refresher course “Integrating Gender Equality and Inclusion in High Quality Research”, offered free of charge by the Partnership for Economic Policy.
While already a specialist in gender equality and social inclusion research, Asenati believes that “every day adds a page to the book of learning.” This mindset inspired her to take the course part-time in February 2026 to reflect on and strengthen her existing knowledge and skills. Aspects of the course that she particularly enjoyed include: "The analysis of norms in research questions"; "Integrating institutional background into research design", and "Analysing GEI microdata".
Asenati highly recommends the course - particularly for early-career researchers looking to build their skills in mainstreaming gender equality and inclusion in development research.
You can access the course here:
