Sometimes we hear of people considering getting an EV who end up with a hybrid of some sort. Perhaps they were a bit anxious themselves and got talked out an EV by a car sales person or perhaps they have a reluctant partner and a hybrid seemed like a reasonable, responsible compromise.
Despite the click-baity image, this video calmly presents robust research that shows that hybrids are barely better and occasionally worse than the combustion vehicles they purport to improve on.
The Truth About Hybrid Cars : It’s Worse Than You Think! Hybrid cars have long been marketed as the sensible halfway house b...

You are invited to an AEVA social event to celebrate 5 percent EVs in the ACT!
Although AEVA has been running since 1973, the ACT branch was only formally created in 2008. In those 18 years, we have been working hard to raise awareness of electric vehicles in Canberra and promote government policies to make them happen faster. Consequently, the ACT has always led Australia in EV adoption.
When EVs reached 20% of new car sales a few years ago, we joked the Canberra was becoming "Little Norway".
We're finally at the point where it feels unstoppable. Almost 40% of new car sales and one in 20 registered vehicles is now a battery electric vehicle.
Come and celebrate this milestone with other AEVA members at the Piallago Bakesmith cafe in Piallago on Sunday 5 July at 11am. You can buy coffee, pastries, brunch or lunch. There is a menu available on the cafe's website.
Registrations are essential to manage numbers. Please register at https://aeva.asn.au/events/1428/ by Friday 26 June.

Excellent work here by teams of AEVA volunteers from NSW, the ACT and Victoria who came out to audit the chargers on sections of the Hume Highway last Sunday so that long weekend travellers can have confidence that things are working well. Over 200 plugs at 45 sites between Sydney and Melbourne were checked. Various minor problems were found but importantly only about 6% of plugs were not working and every site had at least one working charger.

AEVA ACT welcomes the announcement today that the ACT's Sustainable Household Scheme has been extended to cover electric cargo bikes. This low interest loan scheme's cap has been increased to $20K for new participants and can also be used to cover new and used electric cars (as well as other things such as insulation, home electrification etc).
For many people, an electric cargo bike can substitute for a car, with great cost savings and reduced pollution and congestion.
With recent price reductions for new and used electric cars, the low interest loan over 10 years could cover most or all of the cost of an electric car, and the cost of the loan could be covered by the savings in fuel costs.
