Today our resident grey earns his crack in town after creating such an impressive record around our district. He carries less weight than he ever has here today, draws well, lands on a soft track over a distance he relishes. He is a great each way chance here today coming back to the 1000 after a month between runs.

Xtrascent comes here hoping to break his maiden after a total forget run on the heavy last time. Prior to that he had come back from a spell in great order notching up a fantastic 2nd placing. Pierre take over today, and should he put his best hoof forward he will be hard to beat.
Prophet Time is a mare who has probably had the best preparation she's ever had. She enjoys the cut out of the track, the distance and loves Pierre. She is more than capable of running a cheeky race here today at healthy odds, in a very open race.

Late last month saw us retire our old veteran warhorse Major Time.

Purchased 9 years ago at the Inglis classic yearling sale by Gratz on behalf of long term clients, Chucky as he was fondly known as became a part of the furniture here at Gratz Vella Racing. The son of Epaulette, ran in Namesake for a man who meant so much to Gratz, in Jim Munro. Jim, a Sergeant Major in the army, it was only fitting that the son of Epaulette be fondly named Major Time in Jim's honour. We watched him flourish from a yearling, right up to a 10 year old. Facing the starter 74 times, for 9 wins (each under a different jockey), 17 second placings and 9 third placings, Chucky retires with an almost 50% strike rate of finishing in the money! An impressive feat, banking just over $300,000 for his connections.

Chucky was a trainers dream horse. Quiet and loyal, he most definitely held a soft spot for everyone here, being many of our stablehands first ever strap at the races, there was never shy of any hands up to take chucky to the races! He ran consistently well, guided many apprentices throughout his years and when the decision was made to retire him, there were quite a few girls that came to see him off on to his new adventure!

Chucky has retired into the care of the extended family of his owners, where we know he will be as loved there as he was here. He also retires into the local area, where we can all visit from time to time, which has been bitter-sweet for the staff here.

Race 6 - 1:55 - VELLA'S BEST - Winona Costin

Vella's best heads here today after a short freshen up. He is a horse that typically races well fresh, has a great record over the 1000m, is effective on the soft and comes back down in grade. He draws well and is weighted well and everything points towards a much more improved showing from him today, at healthy odds.

Xtrascent heads here for his 3rd career start, hoping to break his maiden after finishing 2nd first up from a spell. He's had 2 starts for 2 second placings in his short career and takes his place in a tricky little maiden here today, with the weight to carry, but based on what he has shown us so far, he is a well deserved favourite today with Brodie Loy taking the reigns.

Prophet time has had a good preparation thus far, she lands in an easy race and draws well, and Jordan's claim will benefit her greatly.
Chasing a Quid is hard fit and lands in a hard federal here today. He draws well and is weighted well and is capable of running a cheeky race here today.
Sutton Vella has strung together a string of nice placings this prep. She draws well, and is a good chance of returning to the winners circle today.
Region Time is 4th up here today. She's hard fit and ready to put her best hoof forward here, after drawing well.
Vella Icon has had a frustrating luckless campaign, she draws well, weighted well and usually likes racing at home.

Beau Rock is 2nd up here today after a solid showing sat out wide and running hime well first up. He is fitter, drawn okay and has ran well for Quayde before.
Xtrascent resumes here from a spell after a 2nd placing from his only start so far. He has drawn awkwardly but has matured into a lovely horse after his break.
Vella Icon has been a little luckless this prep, but draws well and is down in the weights. On her 3rd placing 3 starts back, she is capable of running a cheeky race here.
Major Time the old stable veteran lines up here today, drawn out but weighted kindly. He has been a great horse for our stable and on his best form is capable of running a cheeky race here today.
Sutton Vella is 3rd up from a spell and strip's fitter. Down in weight, draws well, and reunites with Jeff who has won on her before. She will make her presence felt here today.
Teylu heads here after a total forget run last start. He has drawn kindly, but lumped the weight to carry again today. Pierre sticks with him and has a good association with our grey gelding who is ever so consistent and will too make his presence felt here today.

Chasing a Quid comes here off the back of some very good runs. He's had his hoof on the till for a while now. He draws out a little, but is weighted well and gains the services of seasoned jockey Sairyn Fawke, who is a welcome new addition to our region and we wish him well going forward. He is capable of a bold performance here today off his past few runs.
Region Time is now 3rd up in this campaign and strip's fitter here. She draws well, weighted well, likes the distance and gains the services of Robyn Freeman here today. She is capable of a cheeky showing at each way odds.
Prophet time comes here off a last start win at very healthy odds. She is a mare racing in career best form and Pierre, who too is in career best form sticks with her today. She is capable of running another very cheeky race here today.
