πŸ‰ Rainforestation Cup - 2026 Men's A Grade Ladder Update πŸ‰

After 9 rounds of the Rainforestation Cup, the competition is shaping up for an exciting run to the finals.

The JCU Mariners Rugby Union Football Club continue to set the pace at the top of the ladder with six wins from seven matches. Their competition-leading points differential of +114 highlights their dominance and has them firmly in the driver's seat heading into the second half of the season.

The Barron Trinity Bulls remain well placed in second position, sitting two wins behind the leaders and building momentum as the finals race begins to heat up.

The battle for the remaining finals positions is incredibly tight, with just two competition points separating third and fourth. Both the Cairns Northern Beaches Rugby Union and Port Douglas Rugby Union Inc. remain firmly in contention and know that every match from here will have a significant impact on the final standings.

Meanwhile, the Southside Crusaders Sports & Culture Rugby Union have shown plenty of fight throughout the season and will be looking to finish strongly and challenge the teams above them in the closing rounds.

With every side still having matches to play and valuable bonus points on offer, the race to secure the highest possible ladder position before the semi-finals is far from over.

πŸ‰ WHAT A DAY FOR FNQ RUGBY! πŸ‰

Today was a fantastic showcase of the talent, passion and strength of rugby in Far North Queensland.

Our junior representative teams were simply outstanding, going undefeated across all age groups! Our Under 12 Mixed side was dominant, our Under 13s and Under 14s were tough and resilient, while our Under 16s sent a clear message that they will be a team to watch at the Queensland Country Championships later this year.

A huge congratulations to all of our coaches and support staff who prepared these squads so well. The players should also be incredibly proud of how they adapted from the 13-man game they are currently playing each week to produce such high-quality Rugby Union performances.

Our Thunder Colts put in a courageous effort against an extended Townsville Brolgas squad. Despite the 33-12 scoreline, they were highly competitive throughout and several players have undoubtedly caught the attention of Queensland Country selectors.

The Lightning Women displayed tremendous heart and determination all day. While the final score of 41-12 didn't truly reflect the intensity of the contest, a lack of bench depth eventually took its toll. There were some outstanding individual performances that have certainly put players into Queensland Country selection discussions.

To cap off a memorable day, our Thunder Men secured a hard-fought 18-15 victory over a highly regarded Townsville Brolgas outfit. It was a fantastic team performance and a fitting reward for the hard work that has gone into representative rugby in FNQ.

A sincere thank you to the Townsville Brolgas players, coaches, officials and supporters for making the trip north to Cairns and helping make another North Queensland Championships a great success. The rivalry between our regions continues to strengthen rugby across North Queensland, and we look forward to continuing the tradition in the years ahead.

Congratulations to every player, coach, manager, volunteer, referee and supporter who contributed to this FNQ Rugby success. The quality of our club competition continues to produce representative teams capable of competing with the best in regional Queensland.

We now turn our attention to the Queensland Country Championships in Townsville in late June and continue building an even stronger representative rugby program for 2027 and beyond.

πŸ’™πŸ’› FNQ Rugby is heading in the right direction.
