FNQ Relay For Life
When it comes to cancer, it takes a community. This page is dedicated to the Far North Queensland event.
Across Australia, hundreds of volunteers host unique Relay For Life events to raise vital funds for Cancer Council.

There's loads of fun activities at Relay - and with more hours comes even more time for shenanigans π€ͺ
Of course all your favourites will be returning - Tug o War, Sun Safety Relay and our Sprint Relays - but we've also got a few new themed activities in the works included themed laps, pyjama fashion parade, and Spotify jams silent disco ππ¨πΆ
We'll have registration for all events and activities at Relay HQ, but places are limited - so get in quick so you don't miss out π

Committee Spotlight β¨ - Teresea
Teresea is a newbie to the committee (YAY!) and has been Relaying in FNQ since 2022 π€ she moved to Cairns as a teen & after several years abroad, choose to return to Cairns for her forever home.
Teresea loves tea & kitties and is even called Tee as a nickname at work (they suspect her blood may be mostly caffeine by this point?) Teresea does Relay for the chance to give back to the community she loves π«Ά
We are always on the look out for new committee members - and it's not too late to join us! We have roles available in all aspects of the event & also just for hands. Relay takes a lot to put together and we appreciate everyone that comes on board to help π₯°

Relay Pro-Tip ππ
BRING YOUR WATER BOTTLE π§π¦
Relay is a marathon, not a sprint - and this year you have 18 hours of hydration to maintain! Barlow is equipped with 4 water refill stations plus plenty of taps, what it is NOT equipped with is single use plastic water bottles.
This year we are also encouraging those who will need a steady supply of caffeine to bring their travel mugs/reusable coffee cups for their visits to Bucks Cafe overnight βοΈπ«

Committee Spotlight β¨ Kayla - Activities Coordinator
Kayla works with Peter, Peter is married to Christina, Christina is our Chair... I think you can figure out how Kayla ended up on the committee π Kayla joined the committee after her first ever Relay (this is what we like to see folks!) and is now in it for the long run. She didn't say that, but we all voted and she can't leave π€·ββοΈ
Kayla organises the fun games & activities we play during Relay - she's also the one who has to put away the pop-up tents after the sun safety relay.... good luck with that.
We have even more hours this year in returning to an overnight Relay, so Kayla has her hands full coming up with more fun overnight activities! Have something you think would be fun to do between midnight & 6am? Let us know ππ

Committee Spotlight β¨ Robin - Catering Coordinator
Robin is perhaps the most important person on the Relay committee... she's the one who keeps everyone fed! She also has taken on a secretary role, is herself a survivor, and has been on the committee for FOREVER π
You can find Robin do**in down on a dagwood dog & having a boogie at Relay!
Have an idea for a good feed at Relay? Leave it in the comments π

Committee Spotlight β¨ Danielle - Team Development
We couldn't find any photos of Danielle where she wasn't running around like a chicken with her head cut off or doing something ridiculous... and that pretty much sums her up!
Danielle has been Relaying since high school and LOVES that we are going back to overnight - look forward to her annoyingly waking people up throughout the night with singing, dancing, and general shenanigans π

We are on the lookout for musicians and performers for FNQ Relay π
With FNQ Relay For Life returning to an overnight event, we have even MORE entertainment spots to fill! Because Relay is a family event and caters to the whole community, we are looking for a variety of different types of performers - solos, duos, whole bands, dancers, etc. - but also of any background, type of music, or age.
You started a band at your school and only done a couple gigs? You are the most well-known artist in Cairns but are just incredibly passionate about volunteering your time for a great community event? You still perform with your best mates after 20 years on the scene together?
We'd love to hear from all of those and everything in between π
Shoot us a DM or an email at: [email protected]
