Had a big week testing a few rods, some tackle, a reel, and some modifications on WATTADAY.

Can comfortably say we are now able to camp in Wattaday for up to and past a week or untill we run out of supplies.

For this trip we started in 1770, and ended up off Bundy. It was a good trip to test some gear as conditions were challenging and didn’t give us the bottom bashing we were after.
We hit 2m swells off 1770 once we got to the channel and single handed with the young bloke on board we decided to head back. No good testing our luck in those conditions in a new area to us. So we went up towards pancake that was slightly more tolerable for the conditions for small windows.

We had heaps of time to try our go to blanks (used on the reef series) on the troll, and we were impressed. I was worried the firmer action would upset the action of some of the trolling lures and dead baits but we found the opposite. We were able to troll at all speeds with an intense action from all lures tested on the rods.

Being a firmer action rod, we had the drag off a bit softer, but in the end it was a bit too soft and cost us decent sized Spanish Mackerel on short Portside corner. However, we landed several good size school Mackerel. Unfortunately the Spanish we missed was the only solid hit we had, but it was all action when it smashed the bottom of the pilchard imitation lure. Bait schools were in limited supply, and what bait we did find there was no pelagics on the chew. Only a few predators on the bottom and they were also limited. Especially once you drop a decent one and it all goes dead instantly.

If your interested in a versatile rod, that can do a bit of everything, the 7 to 15kg Reef series in an overhead or spin configuration can definitely be recommended for a bit of a do it all utility knife of a rod for boat fishing.
We also recommend either balanced, or rear ballast for the overhead, or, forward ballast on the spin to assist with casting distance.

Forward ballast really gives you something to throw for maximum distance on the cast but it does cost a bit more energy to throw it, Rear Ballast gives you a cantilever advantage and keeps weight back towards your body to aid in fatigue for fighting fish and long days on the jig.
Balanced is what 99% of Rod manufacturers and rob builders go for as default.

And guess what? They all make the blank feel completely different.

Today’s weather is awsome, shame someone has to work.

Super pumped for a trip coming up in the next few weeks, we will be seeing some new and amazing country to us. Maybe we will get a stab at the same grounds as we got a donkey 20kg Spanish Mackerel.

Then later on in the year we have a special guest out with us for a few days fish at the bunker group.

And, we will be tracking again up the top of Fraser to chase the Marlin.

What a year this is panning out to be!
