Celebrating an incredible legacy of care and community! 💙
We warmly congratulate our Peter Andrinopoulos on his distinguished recognition with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to the Greek community of Melbourne!
Peter Andrinopoulos has dedicated over 40 years to supporting the Greek community, including 18+ years with PRONIA. As Coordinator of Community Support Programs, he has helped more than 8,000 vulnerable and socially isolated older people and their carers, leading services across Melbourne and guiding a team of 35 staff and 140+ volunteers. For Peter this recognition honours a lifetime of service and the “extraordinary impact” him and his team have made. His work often quiet but deeply transformative, empowers people facing language, cultural and social barriers to live more connected, independent lives.
“The most rewarding part has been giving a voice to those often unheard and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
As part of PRONIA’s Stronger Together Program, carers of people living with dementia came together today for a beautiful Flower Arrangement Workshop
Stronger Together is a culturally and linguistically responsive dementia support program for the Australian Greek community in Melbourne and Hobart, supporting both carers and people living at home with early-stage dementia.
With 50% of carers to people living with dementia, providing up to 60 hours of care each week, creating space for their wellbeing is essential. Through activities like this, Stronger Together, offers opportunities for connection, learning, and self-care.
Today’s workshop gave carers a chance to relax, socialise, and express their creativity. Flowers have a unique way of calming the mind and lifting one’s mood. Focusing on creating a flower arrangement boosts one’s mental wellbeing by increasing positive emotions, reducing mental clutter as well as allowing for personal expression, creativity and a sense of accomplishment.
There were smiles all around as carers proudly shared their creations, many reminiscing about the flowers of their Greek homelands.
This week is Heart Week which is Australia’s national heart health awareness week held in May each year (4–10 May) we are encouraging people living in Australia to Never miss a BEAT.
Today in the Cardiac Group we had 26 participants and we spoke about positive steps to reduce their heart disease risk and a condition called Atrial Fibrillation (AFIB or (AF).
*See your GP for a Heart Health Check I want to encourage everyone to better understand the risk factors for heart disease and book a Heart Health Check with their GP.
One person living in Australia has a heart attack or stroke every four minutes that’s why the Heart Foundation wants you to see your GP
*Start a conversation about heart health with your loved ones Speak to your friends and family about their heart health, and the steps they can take to lower their risk. Encourage them to find out more about their heart disease risk factors, book a Heart Health Check with their GP and make the most of free resources and programs to improve their eating patterns and exercise habits
We can also keep active by going for a walk on your lunch time break , eat well and try some new healthy recipes
We can all take positive steps to reduce our heart disease risk by using the Heart Age Calculator in only three minutes which you can find on the Heart Week website Never miss a BEAT this Heart Week | Heart Foundation.
