Our interim CEO Dave has hit the road to connect with our customers, government reps and regional staff! 🚗

Last Friday, he was in Clare touring the Lower Burdekin Groundwater Project with local canegrowers and representatives from the Department of Environment, Tourism and Innovation and the Department of Primary Industries. Part of a coordinated response to rising groundwater, the project aims to support regional agricultural and aquacultural economic development by promoting sustainable off-farm practices and environmental management. 💧

Channel lining season is officially underway, and our regional Queensland crews have hit the ground running. 💧

In the first week of the Burdekin Haughton scheme shutdown, the team delivered an impressive 380 metres of lining on the Dalbeg Main Channel – almost double the usual weekly target of 200 metres.

With that milestone achieved, crews have since mobilised to Clare, where a further 180 metres was completed on the Clare Main Channel last week.

This outstanding result is a testament to the team’s drive, coordination and commitment in the field.

A big thank you to Great Northern Concreting, Olsen Contracting and the Sunwater crew for making it happen. 👏

Young minds, safe futures 💧

Last month, Burdekin superstars Chantal and Pippa visited Clare State School’s Under 8s Day to share important safety lessons with students.

Through interactive slime, sand, “hidden dangers” activities and plenty of hands-on engagement, they helped the kids learn about staying safe around Sunwater channels and infrastructure. The event brought together around 120 students from schools across the Burdekin region – a fantastic opportunity to connect with young people and build awareness.

We’re lucky to have such engaged team members who can bring such fun and valuable activities and share these important messages with the community. 👏

🎣What a reel-y great day!

Western Downs Carp Busters brought together families, kids and future fishing professionals for a day of learning and fun – a valuable opportunity to connect, learn and inspire the next generation of responsible fishers.

Chantelle from the Sunwater team spent the day with local families and budding fishing legends. Before the prize giving, the kids jumped into two fun education sessions all about keeping our waterways healthy, safe and thriving.

What they learned:
✅ Size limits for yellow belly & dew fish
🚫 Red claw = pest species (don’t throw it back!)
🪤 No more than 4 yabby traps per person
🎣 Up to 6 rods each (within 50 m)
⚠️ Carp must be humanely dispatched & buried

Powering the 10 km at the 2026 Burdekin Sugar Rush! 🏃

The Sugar Rush – run by the awesome volunteers at Burdekin Road Runners & Walkers Inc. – is a favourite on the North Queensland running calendar, bringing the community together for the 5 km, 10 km and half marathon events.

We love supporting this annual race and encouraging the Burdekin to stay active. A big shout out to our Sunwater crew who took part:
👟 Aaron Elphinstone and his daughter Paige, who raced the 5 km (with Paige taking the win over Dad!)
👟 Rhianna Hibberd from our Clare depot, who also took part smashing the 5 km.

Congratulations to everyone who ran, walked or volunteered. Look forward to doing it all over again next year!
