Today is World Mental Health Day. Whilst mental health is a perceived sensitive topic, mental health affects everyone at some point in their lives. Everyone has a bad day, a bad week, a bad month or even longer. No one is immune to a mental health illness , condition or episode. Remember it’s often the loudest, the happiest or the nicest person who is struggling the most. Not just today but every day. Reach out and check on your family, your friends, your work mates or for that matter a stranger. It’s not weak to speak if you are struggling. If you are struggling and you have no one to check on you just pick up the phone in Australia and call lifeline 13 11 14 or your employers Employee Assistance program for help. No matter what you do please speak up.

So why do I do what I do in the world of safety. It’s pretty easy to answer really. I get to help people to return home safely to their families at the end of the day. I want all workers to remember that if it’s not safe don’t do it. Never forget you only have one life and no job is worth dying for. Take the time to assess the risks associated with your job and make sure you put controls in place. You aren’t just a number to your loved ones. You are important.

Working in PNG was definitely not for the faint hearted. But it was a beautiful country with amazing people and the job satisfaction was amazing.

As a walked past a fatal accident this morning it really was a sombre event. The lady that was hit by a bus didn’t expect this to happen, neither did the driver, the emergency services or the witnesses. It’s a very sad reminder that we need to incorporate Safety and Risk Management principles in every thing we do both at work and at home. Stay safe everyone and remember Safety starts with you.

Safety starts with you. At work, at home and in between. Always wear PPE it makes a difference to the outcome and most importantly to you.

Don't text and drive- As of the 1st of September Qld police will be blitzing drivers using mobile phones whilst operating a motor vehicle. The penalty if caught is $353 and 6 demerit points. The penalty if you don't get caught is you could kill yourself or someone else.

As the sun rises over a mine camp we all know what that means...its pre start time 😀.
