We thought we would share some words from our Founder Bronwyn to commemorate this year’s Foster and Kinship Carer Week. 🩵

Words alone cannot completely express the admiration and respect we have of Foster and Kinship Carers. Our Love of Learning Program acts to serve children in care, but also to support their Carers.

Our team speaks to Carers every day, working to place mentors in their homes to support the life outcomes of children in their care. They allow a stranger into their home with the hopes of it making a difference to the life of the child they care for, day in day out.

And we do see the positive benefits of this, but it all starts with a Carer letting us in. So thank you from all of us at The Pyjama Foundation. 🤲

A Foster Carer once shared with us that the only smile directed at one of her foster children that week had been from his Pyjama Angel. This just about broke us.

Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and welcomed. Positive human connection is so important for healing the traumatised brain.

That is why our Pyjama Angels are so special. They make sure no child has to go a week without feeling seen.

Our very own Cruella De Vil (Kirsten) and Tinker Bell (Natalie) had the pleasure of attending the QBD Gala Dinner celebrating QBD’s incredible legacy and commitment to inspiring generations of readers.
 
As an organisation dedicated to helping children in foster care build literacy skills and a love of learning, we know just how powerful books can be. They inspire imagination, nurture confidence and help children dream big.
 
Here’s to 150 years of stories, and many more chapters to come 💙
 
P.S. We were so excited to meet the host who is doing amazing work making reading cool again amongst younger audiences.

Nora is in foster care and still waiting for a Pyjama Angel.

She’s unfortunately one of many children on our waitlist who hasn’t been matched with a mentor yet.

Right now, that means no one consistently sitting beside her to read with her, encourage her, and support her learning week to week.

For a child in care, that consistency matters more than anything.
