SolarBuddy is an impact organisation uniting a community to illuminate the futures of all children.đ SolarBuddy is a global impact organisation.
Our goal is to end the devastating cycle of energy poverty for marginalised communities across the world. We aim to achieve this by educating Australian children about energy poverty, renewable energy and global citizenship. Illuminating futures, one light, one child and one community at a time.

Where the pavement ends, our real work begins!
For 10 years, weâve operated under a single, unshakeable conviction: a childâs future and potential should never be limited by geographical isolation.
But delivering clean, safe energy to the most remote corners of our planet isn't a simple drop-off. Itâs a masterclass in grit.
Over the last decade, our teams and unmapped network of Last Mile Legends have done whatever it takes to deliver light. It means wading through deep mud, crossing open waters on tightly packed boats, taking to unmapped skies, and moving boxes on foot when the roads completely disappear.
Darkness is a design flaw, and infrastructure shouldn't be a privilege. We don't just ship products; we build sustainable, 10-year repairable tech solutions that bypass broken energy systems entirely.
Thank you to every distribution partner, donor, and advocate who has trusted us to lead the way over the last 10 years. We are just getting started. âď¸

As May draws to a close, so does âClean Air Month.â
But for the 660+ million people living with limited or no access to electricity, toxic indoor air isnât a 31-day campaign, itâs a daily, invisible crisis.
When 51% of the worldâs black carbon emissions come directly from unsafe household energy, clean air isnât just an environmental milestone. Itâs a fundamental human right.
The science is stark: just 1kg of black carbon has the exact same warming effect on our atmosphere as 700kg of CO2.
We believe in engineering solutions. Our solar solutions do more than just provide light; they dismantle reliance on toxic kerosene lamps and unsafe fuels, giving families a permanent right to breathe clean air.
Donât let your awareness expire on June 1st. True impact requires a 365-day commitment.

âThis light will help me at home for studying... I must pass.â This single sentence from a Grade 7 student is exactly why we do what we do.
We recently traveled to Kapete Primary and Secondary to deliver SolarBuddy lights. In a boarding house of nearly 400 kids with zero electricity, students were forced to share just five lights, making individual study almost impossible.
Partnering with the , we are thrilled to bring personal solar lights and personal Letter Buddy notes to these future leaders.
As we celebrate 10 years of impact, we wanted to share with you our latest inspiring distribution captured in Chongwe Zambia by . Through this, we are reminded that a solar lamp doesnât just help one child; it brings safety and light to their whole family. Visit the Link in the Bio
10 years. Millions of lives. And countless letters that bridged the gap between worlds.
For a decade, these letters have turned theoretical empathy into active global citizenship. From classrooms and light building events around the world to the most remote âlast mileâ communities, a simple note attached to a light says: âwe see you and weâre with youâ đđ
Help us illuminate the next decade. A gift of just $70 doesnât just provide a light; it closes the distance between darkness and opportunity.

Ten years ago, ending energy poverty felt impossible.
So, we started with just one light. We didnât know then that this single prototype would become the foundation of a global movement. Today, we celebrate 10 years of refusing to leave anyone in the dark.đ¤˛đź
Hereâs to another decade of impact!

Behind every SolarBuddy light is a volunteer making sure itâs ready to change a life. đĄ
Before reaching the hands of a child, each of these 300 JuniorBuddy lights, from a recent distribution in Cambodia, was carefully quality checked by volunteers with our partners at . Tested to ensure itâs working, fitted securely, and paired with a LetterBuddy message of hope. These final touches matter. They ensure every light arrives safe, reliable, and ready to make an impact.
To our incredible volunteers, thank you for your care, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering light with dignity. đđ

âThe kids loved the letters from the Aussie children! Please pass on our profound gratitude to everyone involved. We have many children living with us and so it was amazing to witness first hand the incredible difference Solar Buddy makes to their study. The children actually love to study at night! It was so special to walk around the rooms and see so many children busy reading in the glow of their Solar Buddies. Itâs so hot after school and no one feels like doing homework! But in the evening itâs nice and cool and now the children have lights to help them study. Itâs awesome!â

Soaring gas prices and global conflict are pushing Southeast Asian countries to the brink. The price of crude oil is skyrocketing - the heaviest burden falls on these communities.
Because kerosene is a direct byproduct of crude oil, these families are now forced to compete with global industries for limited energy resources. As prices become unsustainable, people are left in darkness.
We believe energy should be a human right.
You can help us replace expensive, dangerous fuels with a free and healthy solar future.
This Earth Day, weâre celebrating the power of a single light. âď¸
Millions of families still rely on kerosene for light, a fuel thatâs dangerous for our health and devastating for our planet. But there is a better way.
From us, to the most remote communities, the SolarBuddy team is on a mission to end energy poverty with clean, sustainable innovation.
One light. A 10 year impact. One healthier planet. đâ¤ď¸

đŽđŠEast Sumba Highlights Part 3: SolarBuddy lights delivered to Ruma Kambera, East Sumba through the dedicated efforts of our partners Rotary Australia, Rotary Club Mandurah, Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation.
âTo give you some perspective: bringing these lamps from Australia to here is one of the most complex logistical efforts weâve ever taken on - nearly 4 days by ferry, 6 days by road, all within Indonesia. Itâs been a huge challenge, but Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia are so proud to have made it happen. âBringing these lamps to one of the most remote and isolated regions in the world was no small feat.â - Alex Wettstein (Founder of Fair Future Foundation)
