Solarpunk promises regenerative, multispecies urban futures – but as its eco-futurist aesthetic travels from Singapore’s curated tourist icons to Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic transformation, sustainability risks sliding from systemic change into spectacle, and from ambition into greenwashing.

New research article out now: Urban parks, value uplift and green gentrification: An application of the spatial hedonic model in the city of Brisbane, by Marta Bottero, Caterina Capriolia, Marcus Foth, Peta Mitchell, Markus Rittenbruch and Marco Santangelo. 🇮🇹 🇦🇺
This study’s property economics modelling analysis indicates the conversion of Brisbane's Barrambin / Victoria Park from a golf course to public parkland will increase property prices by an average of 3% within 750m of the park. The article also discusses challenges of green gentrification and suggests possible policy responses.
