At the start of this year, we welcomed Tom to our team as a first year apprentice. Fresh out of school, Tom is getting amongst a wide variety of work, and is fast building his tool kit - figuratively and literally.

Tom likes: Landcruisers, Mango Loco Monsters and knitted vests.
Tom does not like: badly maintained lawns and posing for photos.

What we do in the shadows...

Unfortunately, we can't spend every day installing eye-catching lighting. This job saw us lurking in the basement of an abandoned shopping centre, bringing the electrical system up to scratch to allow for the reconnection of power.

If you're driving past TAFE Queensland - Eagle Farm Campus after dark, you won't miss it! Together with Hatch has installed Firefly's Golden Warm White fairy lights on five feature trees across the campus, supported by in-ground uplights, 24V festoon lighting, floodlighting and 60 metres of Firefly LED neon, highlighting the rugged texture and warm colour of the front boundary wall.

We're so proud of the result, which not only looks great - it improves safety for staff and students, and increases the usability of the spacious outdoor areas after dark.

DROP THAT BROOMSTICK!! 🧹 Next time you burn the toast, there’s a much simpler way to silence your smoke alarms. This awesome Brooks 450 wireless alarm controller allows you to test, silence and locate the source of false alarms - without losing your cool.

Do your smoke alarms comply with current Queensland legislation? There should be one in each bedroom, and at least one in the path of exit on each level. If you’re not sure, drop us a DM and we’ll happily fill you in!

🚨 If you’re getting frequent false alarms when you’re cooking, we can help with that too. Standard photoelectric smoke alarms are not designed to be installed in kitchens or moist areas, but we can recommend a thermal or CO2 type alarm to suit your application.

Queensland Theatre has re-dedicated their courtyard and gathering place - now called Milmerriba, in recognition of traditional owners. It was a privilege to complete the installation of new Firefly Lighting fairy lights on the bottle tree at its centre, and to attend the opening night of their new production 37. Highly recommended for theatre fans and footy fans alike! QT has an amazing lineup for 2024 - treat yourself to a ticket, and while you're there, enjoy the golden glow of this beautiful tree!

We’ve loved getting our hands on a smorgasbord of premium equipment from which powers all of Orange Sky’s mobile laundry and shower services across Australia and New Zealand. 

This hybrid laundry/shower van includes 400Ah of lithium heavy duty batteries, a 2000W inverter and Total Vehicle Management System for reliable and user-friendly control and monitoring of the system. The batteries are charged simultaneously from rooftop solar panels, the vehicle’s alternator feed and by plugging in to a standard power point.

Today we find Rylan the all-rounder turning his hand to plumbing. This vehicle carries 300L of fresh water supplying showers and washing machines, with the waste water pumped under the vehicle to the waste tank. After a day rolling around in grey water, he’ll be happy to return to electrician duties on Monday.

We’re getting our hands dirty in the Land of the Long White Cloud, upgrading mobile laundry and shower vehicles for Orange Sky NZ.

The upgrades include some significant electrical innovations, which allow us to remove the on-board diesel generator and run the vehicle off rechargeable lithium batteries!
