A Tribute to Robert Taylor
from Irene Tavutavu (secretary of 4EB) on behalf of Radio 4EB.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have been one of Robert Taylor’s students. 4EB was equally fortunate to have such a passionate and dedicated media trainer join our team. Robert brought with him extensive experience from the UK media industry, encompassing not only panel operation and broadcaster training, but also interviewing, broadcasting, journalism, and authorship.
The training model that Robert developed at 4EB was, in our view, second to none. Both Sulieni Layt and I completed the AERTP course under his guidance, and it remains one of the best training programs we have ever attended. Robert was instrumental in creating a professional and comprehensive framework for broadcaster development. Broadcasters who completed Robert’s training were highly regarded throughout the community broadcasting sector. Those who moved to other community radio stations required little or no additional training, such was the quality and thoroughness of his instruction. In fact, several of his graduates went on to secure positions with the ABC in both radio and television. “
We were deeply saddened when, for personal reasons, he returned to New Zealand, and his departure left a significant void within the station.
Robert was a true gentleman whose passion for media and commitment to Maoridom inspired countless broadcasters. His professionalism, kindness, and dedication left a lasting legacy that continues to be felt by all who had the privilege of working and learning alongside him.
The world has truly lost a great gentleman, a gifted mentor, and a man with a special heart for both Maoridom and the media industry.
Robert was a delight to have as part of the 4EB family. He always had a smile, a story to share, and words of encouragement for those around him.
Our sincere condolences go to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

At Radio 4EB, we proudly stand in agreement with the message of National Reconciliation Week 2026 and this year’s theme, “All In”.
As a multicultural community broadcaster, we believe reconciliation must live in our conversations, our communities, and our everyday actions. We recognise the importance of creating spaces where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, stories, cultures and futures are valued, heard and celebrated.
“All In” reminds us that reconciliation is not passive, and it is not a responsibility First Nations peoples should carry alone. It calls each of us to listen, learn, reflect and actively contribute to a more respectful and united Australia.
Radio 4EB remains committed to fostering understanding, inclusion and meaningful connection across all communities as we continue walking together toward reconciliation.

Today on National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the strength, resilience, and ongoing healing journeys of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly members of the Stolen Generations and their families.
At Radio 4EB, we recognise the importance of truth-telling, listening, and creating spaces where stories, cultures, and voices are respected and heard.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and stand in solidarity with First Nations communities as we reflect on the importance of healing, connection, and reconciliation.

Huge thank you to Multicultural Voices Australia for bringing together multicultural community stations from across the country for a weekend of cultural exchange, connection, and celebration of multicultural community radio in Australia.
Congratulations also on the rebrand from NEMBC to Multicultural Voices Australia - a name that feels fitting, inclusive, and representative of the many diverse voices shaping community broadcasting across the nation. We look forward to contributing towards strengthening and growing our multicultural community broadcasting sector together.
Thank you for hosting the conference on the beautiful lands of the Turrbal and Jagera peoples of Meanjin.
Always special connecting with multicultural stations and broadcasters from around Australia - a wholesome weekend celebrating the power of community broadcasting.
