In this post, I want to share with you one mistake I made as a leader and what I learned from it.

I gave repeated instructions to one of my team members to do a particular task.

Inspite of multiple instructions, she wasn't performing and doing it correctly.

During one of the weekly team calls, I lost my cool and gave her feedback before the entire team.

I told her to step up her game, focus more and follow the instructions.

She felt bad and took it personally. She started crying and asked me how can I say something like that, She is putting all the effort, she is 100% committed to the work... Etc.

Her points made me thinking, what did I accomplish by calling her out before the team?

Nothing...

Here is an important lesson I learned that day:

If you have to praise an employee - Do it public. (before the team)

If you want give them feedback or talk about their mistakes or talk about anything negative - Do it in private (1 on 1)

Implementing this lesson made a huge impact on the team culture in my company.

Many business owners ask me this question,
I want to start delegating tasks, but I don't know what tasks to delegate first?

In this post I want to share 2 frameworks which will help you decide what tasks to delegate and what tasks you must do.

First framework:
First step I want you to do is, Calculate your hourly rate. Let's say your hourly rate is $75.

Once you calculate your hourly rate, make a list of all the tasks which you can delegate for lower than your hourly rate.

Start with these tasks. Let's say you can hire someone for $20 per hour to do some of those tasks, hire this person and delegate the tasks to them.

If you delegate the low value tasks, you will have more time to do high value tasks and generate more income.

Second Framework:
As an entrepreneur, your focus should be on building the business, generating more revenue and scaling it.

Make a list of all the tasks you are passionate of doing and revenue generating activities. Once you make this list, start delegating the tasks which you are not passionate about or non-revenue generating activities.

If you delegate these tasks, you can spend more time on the tasks you are passionate about and on revenue generating tasks.

Have you tried to make a list of all the things you need to do in the morning and by the evening only a small % of it got done.

As an entrepreneur, we wish to get more work done. We work hard.

But if you try to do all the tasks alone, you will have a hard time finishing them.

The hard truth is it is not possible to do all the tasks for multiple reasons. You have limited time, resources, mental bandwidth etc.

If you want to get more work done, it is recommended to get help of other people.

Hire people who are good at what they do and delegate the tasks to them.

You can start delegating the tasks which are below your hourly rate.

Once you start delegating the tasks, you will notice that you are spending more time on tasks which are important and more things are getting done in your business.

Richard Branson is a serial entrepreneur who runs and manages 100+ successful companies. I always wondered how does he do it?
How is it even possible.

Few months back, I read an article where he shared his "Secret".

When he starts a new venture, for few months he gives complete attention on the company. During these months, he does 2 things
Set up Vision for the company, right business model, process which works.

Identify, hire and train the right people who can execute these processes, business model and make sure they achieve the vision of the company.

Once he does these things, he hands over the company to these people and moves to new venture.

With person like Richard Branson, it takes few months because he has done it multiple times and mastered the required skills.

One key learning I got from knowing his process is you need to have right team who can execute what the business model and Systems you have set.

If you want to achieve your vision, you must have rights systems backed up by right team.

Every CEO of a successful company has achieved his/her dream after they built a team.

Do you agree?

Have you met any CEO who has achieved extraordinary things do it alone?
I am sure you didn't.

As a CEO of your company, you can achieve your goal to a certain limit if you are a one person company.

if you try to achieve your goal alone, it will be a slow process. You will be overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done.

You will be doing things which are below your pay grade and do those things which you dislike doing.

If you have a bigger dream, the best way to achieve your dram is to build a powerful team who is aligned with your vision and do it together.

You don't have to hire a six figure full time employee to begin with. You can start small.

May be start with a part time employee or pay by hour freelancer.
Once you are comfortable, Then you can think of hiring more team members.

Remember, "Bigger the DREAM, the most powerful your team should be"

I am Darsh. I started my entrepreneurial journey from door to door sales. Then, I started my own company in education-based marketing and scaled it to 6 figures in 18 months.
