THIS is where so many dog owners get stuck.

You know giving in to the barking isn’t helping.
You know being dragged down the street isn’t normal.
You know something needs to change.

But when it actually happens? You have no fu***ng idea what to do 😂

That was Lily’s humans a few months ago.

She pulled HARD, refused to walk unless it was to go play fetch at the dog park, reacted to dogs and would demand bark the second Katya & Simon dared to stop entertaining her 💀

So during their Lifestyle Program, we changed the whole picture.

Her diet. Her flat collar → slip lead. Clear markers. Structured walks. Boundaries around play.

But the hardest bit?

Training the humans 😂

Stop repeating commands. Stop talking so much. Follow through. Stop letting things slide because “ehhh, just this once.”

Because changing your dog’s habits means changing some of yours too.

And today, on Lily’s THIRD birthday 🎂, she’s officially graduated from my Lifestyle Program 🥹

She walked beautifully along a very busy Sandgate foreshore with tons of people and dogs. No one would have known a few months ago she was reactive and dragging her owners down the street.

You don’t need to know how to fix it before you come to me.

That’s literally my job.

Bring me the pulling, barking, reactivity and “I know I’m making this worse but I don’t know what else to do.”

We’ll figure that s**t out together 🧡

This is what happens when we stop looking at the walk as the only problem 🥹

When Imogene first reached out, taking Bones and Peaches out together had become incredibly stressful.

They pulled HARD on the lead, they were reactive towards other dogs, and she’d lost so much confidence taking them out in public.

And that sucked - because she loves her dogs. She wants them to actually LIVE. To go on adventures, explore new places and be included in her life without every outing feeling like a battle.

On Wednesday, we had our third coaching session together and, for the first time, we took everything we’ve been working on into a public park.

And they absolutely smashed it 🥹

Beautiful loose leash walking.
Passing other dogs without lunging or barking.
Checking in.
Listening.
Actually being able to just exist in the environment.

There was the occasional whine around another dog - and honestly? That’s okay.

They’re still learning that seeing another dog doesn’t mean they need to explode, pull towards them or lose their minds. Neutrality is a skill, and we’re building it.

I even handed Peaches back over so Imogene could walk BOTH dogs together, with me there for support.

And they walked beautifully!! 😭

But this didn’t magically happen at the park.

Imogene has been putting in the work at home.

Place training. More downtime. Giving the dogs some healthy separation instead of constantly being together. Cleaning up their diets. Helping Peaches lose weight. Practising the skills we’ve been working on between sessions.

All the boring little things that don’t necessarily make an exciting Instagram Reel…

Until suddenly you’re standing in a park, walking two dogs you didn’t feel confident taking out anymore, calmly past another dog.

THAT is why we work on the whole picture.

We’ve got our final session together next week and I am so bloody proud of how far these three have come already 🧡

The goal was never just “stop them reacting.”

It was giving Imogene the confidence to get back out into the world with her dogs and actually enjoy life with them again.

And we’re getting there 🐾

Maggie’s only 10 months old, and when we started training together, walks were basically one long argument with the lead.

Pulling, scanning, distracted by everything around her, especially dogs.

The obvious thing is to look at this video and think:

“Cool. She learned to heel.”

But that’s not really the win.

The win is that she’s starting to understand how to move through the world with her person without every tree, dog, smell and movement hijacking her attention.

And we’re only three sessions into her 6-week Walk & Train.

Next we’ll start layering in more neutrality around dogs and harder environments, because walking nicely when nothing is happening is one thing.

Being able to stay connected when the world gets interesting is where this becomes useful in real life.

That’s what I care about.

Not a “perfect heel.”

A dog you can actually enjoy going places with.

If your walks feel like your dog is taking you for a fu***ng hostage negotiation every morning, DM me WALKS and I’ll tell you what I’d look at first.

The flirt pole is SUCH an underrated dog toy 👀

Especially if you’ve got a dog with a decent prey drive.

Instead of constantly trying to suppress that instinct to chase, stalk, grab and catch, a flirt pole gives them an appropriate outlet for it.

Think giant cat toy… but for dogs 😂

It’s one of my favourite ways to:

• fulfil prey drive + natural instincts
• burn energy without needing a massive amount of space
• build engagement with you
• practise impulse control around something REALLY exciting
• add more play into your relationship
• give high-drive dogs an appropriate outlet for all that chaos 😂

And it’s not just about running them in circles until they’re exhausted.

You can use it to practise waiting before being released, chasing, catching, winning the toy, bringing it back and learning how to switch off again afterwards.

Fulfilment is a HUGE piece of behaviour that gets overlooked.

Sometimes your dog doesn’t need another 5km walk.

They need to actually use their body and brain in a way that makes sense to them.

And for a lot of dogs? Chasing s**t makes a LOT of sense 😂

If you want to add one to your dog’s toy collection, you can grab a flirt pole through my online store 🐾🧡

Miss Maggie is a 10 month old Staffy who is completing my 6 week Walk & Train Package. We’re only 3 sessions in and she’s already heeling like a pro, having so much fun and wanting to engage with me instead of being distracted by everything around us!

✅ No more pulling
➡️ Next up… neutrality around other dogs

I know that sounds wrong… but this is something I see all the time

If your dog is:
Pulling
Reacting
Always “on” during walks

And you’re taking them on the same walk every single day…

You’re not actually helping them switch off

You’re repeating the same environment
The same triggers
The same stress points

So instead of learning to be calm…
they’re just getting better at being heightened

Especially if it’s:
Short lead only
Fast pace
No time to sniff or decompress

That’s not a fulfilling walk for our dogs
It’s just stress and pressure

This is why I’m always telling clients to mix it up

Different environments
More space
Long line work
Letting your dog actually be a dog for a bit!

That’s where you start to see a shift

If your walks feel like hard work right now, there’s a reason for it. Follow Grace | Dog Behaviour & Lifestyle Coach and I’ll help you figure it out

You’re not alone.

It’s not your dog. It’s the small things we do differently 👇🏼

1️⃣ You repeat yourself
If you’re saying cues over and over with no follow through, your dog doesn’t learn what to do, or learn they don’t have to listen the first time.
I say it once, then I show them exactly what it means.

2️⃣ You talk too much
I know you love them - but constant talking becomes white noise.
When everything sounds the same, nothing stands out.
My words are short, clear, and actually mean something.

3️⃣ Your expectations aren’t consistent
Sometimes they can pull, sniff, or ignore you… sometimes they can’t.
That’s confusing.
With me, behaviours mean the same thing every time - so your dog understands how to win.

4️⃣ You’re not building enough value
I don’t just correct dogs - I make being with me fun.
I play with them, reward great choices, praise the hell out of engagement… and I use the environment too.

Sniffing, exploring, freedom - those are rewards.
Your dog isn’t stuck in a heel for 45 minutes… they earn access to the world by making good choices.

That’s how you become more valuable than the environment.

5️⃣ I build trust through clarity
Because I’m consistent, fair, and rewarding… your dog knows exactly where they stand.
That creates a dog who wants to listen.

Here’s the shift:

It’s not what you do once a week that matters most…
it’s what you do every single day.

So if your dog listens better to me -
it’s just because I’m being clearer, more consistent, and more valuable right now.

And you can be too 🤎

If you’re not sure how to do that, I’ve got you.
